Why Do We Like Instagram Posts Of Hot And Famous People

Social media gives us the chance to show off to friends, family and strangers, bringing us closer to them despite the distance. Instagram, specifically, has created booming new career paths for users, inspiring hundreds of Gen-Z and millennials to become bloggers, lifestyle coaches, fitness gurus, and more — all with the intent of delivering the most pleasing looking profiles. Instagram has had a big effect on celebrity culture, bringing us closer to them and showing us a glimpse of their lives.

The app’s emphasis on a curated and filtered out lifestyle has made it the best place for us to spend hours thirsting (and stressing) over celebrity looks and lifestyles. Just take a peek through the comments of any notorious Instagram personality to see how many people lavish them with heart-eyed emojis, praise and marriage proposals.

Although there’s nothing wrong with spreading positivity and complimenting people, a ‘like’ or a comment amongst thousands isn’t going to get you noticed, so it’s interesting to see why we still do this.

The Huffington Post spoke to social psychologist Frank T. McAndrew, who explained that there is some biological explanation for this kind of behavior. “Because these are people that we know in common with others, they become topics of conversation. These people worm their way into our social world.” In our hearts, the act of looking at your celebrity crush’s posts, liking them and leaving comments, does bring us a little closer together, even if we know in our brains that this isn’t the case.

Is it creepy to ‘like’ and comment on every photo your celebrity crush posts? Maybe, but it’s also common and a side effect of today’s culture. There’s nothing wrong with if it makes you happy and possibly a little horny. Still, the most important thing to do when it comes to Instagram is to take care of your health. If seeing someone’s perfect photos and lifestyle makes you feel inadequate, then it’s not worth it.

NFL Could Give Players Access To Marijuana Sooner Than Later

Rumors have become reports, as the National Football League is prepared to make concessions around its substance abuse policy in its next Collective Bargaining Agreement with players, according to NBC’s ProFootballTalk. Whispers of the NFL loosening its regulations on players using cannabis stretch back as far as two years ago, when former football player Eben Britton told The Fresh Toast his belief the league would use cannabis as a “bargaining chip” in CBA negotiations.

PFT’s Mike Florio reported that it remains undecided to what degree the NFL would allow players to use cannabis. He didn’t rule out a “complete abandonment” of any cannabis regulation whatsoever, leaving players to their own discretion regarding marijuana usage. The biggest concern regards players in states where cannabis remains federally illegal, and how does the league respond if they received marijuana possession charges.

RELATED: How Would Whole Foods Selling Marijuana Impact The Industry?

“A delicate balance may be required,” Florio writes. “It the law of the land becomes ‘smoke at will as long as you’re in a weed-legal state,’ plenty of free agents will flock to teams in states where it’s legal. So maybe the best approach would be to simply dump marijuana from the list of banned recreational drugs, and move on.”

Part of the league’s leniency involves the changing culture around cannabis. The plant’s essentially mainstream now. Virtually every 2020 Democratic presidential candidate has backed federal marijuana legalization and been applauded for doing so. Quietly removing marijuana from the NFL’s banned substances list likely won’t result in serious backlash from fans. We also know owners like Jerry Jones don’t care anymore, as the Dallas Cowboys owner said the NFL should “drop its prohibition on marijuana use” two years ago.

You might be wondering why if the NFL doesn’t care anymore about cannabis, why not just drop it now? Well, as Britton mentioned, the owners don’t want to give up the “bargaining chip” they have. Sadly, giving players access to medical marijuana that could provide pain relief from addictive opioids and could possibly alleviate concussion symptoms isn’t enough. This is a business decision as much as anything.

Via ProFootballTalk:

The problem is that the NFL can’t start abandoning its rights without a concession from the NFL Players Association, and the NFLPA will make no concessions when it comes to a once-per-year marijuana testing procedure that most players are able to navigate successfully. Thus, the best way to back off would be to pitch the cannabis issue into the broader stew of back-and-forthing that will happen in connection with full-blown CBA discussions.

No matter what, we’re sure cannabis will be a point of discussion in the upcoming CBA negotiations. Until then, NFL players will have to continue pretending like they don’t already use cannabis.

4 CBD Products Marathon Runners Should Add To Their Training ASAP

Marathon runners are no strangers to pain. After all, you don’t have the grit to train for 26.2-mile races without running with sore muscles, tightness, and the occasional black toenail along the way. Still, if you’re passionate about running, you push through any and all pain until you’ve met your goals.

But if there’s any way to ease your running aches, you should embrace it, of course! That means regularly getting massages, using your foam roller, and now, adding some CBD to your training routine. CBD may help runners by reducing inflammation, soreness, and pain. Here are a few ways to incorporate it into your training so you can up your running game.

You might already enjoy a protein-powder drink or shake after your runs, but we bet you haven’t tried a CBD-infused protein powder just yet. They are worth a try, though, because protein powders with CBD can help your muscles recover thanks to the protein and they are also are anti-inflammatory. That can help reduce soreness quicker. Plus, in flavors like chocolate and vanilla, you won’t mind drinking up.

CBD balm

healing balm can be a runner’s best friend: Helping with everything from knee pain to soothing tired and achy feet. An oil-based CBD balm is quickly absorbed into the skin, so you’ll feel some relief almost immediately. Try rubbing it on your knees, feet, and hamstrings (or anywhere you feel tight) after a training run. You can also try it on chapped skin or blisters to start the healing process.

Coconut water

You come back sweaty and exhausted from your runs, and the first thing you want to do is re-hydrate as quickly as possible. If you like to reach for coconut water (which is a smart choice because it is filled with electrolytes!) it’s time to add some CBD to your favorite hydrating beverage. This unique coconut workout supplement just needs to be mixed with water (and if you want, add lots of ice) and because it’s a drink, you’ll absorb the benefits quickly. This is also a smart choice if you tend to get nauseous after long runs, because CBD can help you with nausea, too.

Muscle and joint relief cream

Once you’ve crossed the finish line and the race is over, unfortunately your pain may only be beginning. It can take several days or even weeks to recover after a marathon and to get over the soreness and achiness you’re feeling. A CBD cream works topically to help with any pain and help muscles and joints relax. Plus it is infused with menthol, which will have a nice cooling effect on any areas feeling hot or inflamed.

Royal Milestone: The Queen Just Posted Her First Instagram Pic!

You have to hand it to The Queen. At 92-years-old, when many grandparents consider themselves too old to grapple with technology, she is embracing it.

During a visit to the Science Museum in London to launch the new Smith Centre, Her Majesty posted an image to Instagram to @theRoyalFamily in front of a cheering crowd, who got to see, first hand, history being made.

The Instagram pic is actually a photo of another photo — a letter written in 1843 to her great-great-grandfather Prince Albert, credited as the world’s first computer pioneer.

Posted earlier today, the caption reads:

Today, I had the pleasure of learning about children’s computer coding initiatives and it seems fitting to me that I publish this Instagram post, at the Science Museum which has long championed technology, innovation and inspired the next generation of inventors.

As The Guardian points out, the Science Museum was also the site of the Queen’s first tweet back in 2014:

The Guardian also reminds us that back in 1976, long before anyone knew what an email was, the Queen became the first monarch to send an electronic message during a visit to the Royal Signals and Radar Establishment (RSRE) in Malvern using ARPANET, which eventually morphed into what we now know as the internet.

Is FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb’s Resignation Good Or Bad For Marijuana?

The cannabis industry is in a bit of a panic right now over the news that Scott Gottlieb, the commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is resigning from his post and moving back to Connecticut. Their concern is that his desire to pack-it-up and vacate his position with the Trump Administration will slow down the progress further of sorting out the confusion surrounding hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD). It was just last month that Gottlieb promised to hold public hearings in April to try and figure out how to properly regulate the substance. Now, no one seems to know whether these meetings will go down as planned or be cast aside.

Ever since Congress legalized industrial hemp production at the end of last year, cannabis companies have been trying to use the law to step up the distribution of hemp-derived CBD products. Although there is very little scientific evidence that this non-intoxicating compound is genuinely beneficial in treating a variety of health conditions or promoting wellness, CBD has become the next best thing since sliced bread in the eyes of Americans. Wall Street analysts predict it will become a $16 billion market by 2025. No kidding, they predict even Starbucks will enter the game.

RELATED: What Does The FDA Really Think About Medical Marijuana?

But the FDA swooped in and tossed a wrench in the wheels of the CBD craze earlier this year when it said companies purporting the medicinal benefits of CBD must go through the agency’s approval process. It took this a step further by advising that not even CBD used in edible products, a popular trend in the wellness market, was not allowed since the compound has not yet been giving the green light for food application. The main takeaway way was that CBD producers must be held to the same standards as other companies that manufacture food and medicine.

The FDA’s comments sparked some CBD bans in local and state jurisdictions. Yet, Gottlieb’s CBD hearings were the first step to sorting out the problem.

But no meeting was ever scheduled.

RELATED: Senators Urging FDA To Update Rules On CBD Products

Although Gottlieb said the FDA would hold public hearings on the CBD issue, no specific date was ever mentioned or made official. So, it is not likely there is a giant calendar smack dab in the middle of the agency’s offices in Washington D.C. with “CBD Hearings” written down somewhere in the month of April for the next commissioner to jump into when he or she steps in. Nope. Rest assured, no one is sitting around the FDA today making a plan to address CBD regulations.

In fact, some reports indicate that all of the initiatives supported by Gottlieb are in jeopardy of falling by the wayside upon his departure. In other words, it is probably going to take some heavy-handedness on the part of the cannabis advocacy community (and possibly Congress) before the question of whether unapproved hemp-derived CBD products can be used with upsetting the feds. So is this good or bad for the marijuana industry? We’re going to say it’s mostly bad, as it will probably continue to jam up those companies trying to profit from industrial hemp.

Taylor Swift Stalker Arrested For Breaking Into Her Apartment; Jason Priestley Posts Touching Tribute To Luke Perry

‘Goodnight Sweet Prince’: Jason Priestley posts touching tribute to Luke Perry

BFFs Dylan and Brandon were as much of a power pair on Beverly Hills, 90210 as any couple — and Jason Priestley is in shock over losing his dear old friend Luke Perry.

Three days after Perry died after suffering a massive stroke at age 52, Priestley broke his silence on social media, posting a photo of himself with Perry from 90210 — their famous haircuts in fine form — alongside a more recent shot.

“It’s taken me a couple of days to figure out how to write this,” his Instagram post began about his “dear friend of 29 years.”

Priestley went on to describe Perry as “one of those truly special people who really cared … Luke was not only a star, he was an incredibly bright light that was extinguished far too soon … and that is why I, and so many others, are in so much pain today.”

He continued, “If you had the good fortune to know Luke, or to have ever crossed his path, I know you are sad today as well … the candle that burns twice as bright only burns for half as long … you burned oh, so brightly Luke.”

He ended by writing, “Goodnight Sweet Prince.”

Taylor Swift stalker arrested for breaking into her apartment

Taylor Swift‘s accused stalker was arrested early Thursday for allegedly breaking into her TriBeCa apartment building — for the second time in less than a year, sources told The Post.

Roger Alvarado was arrested for allegedly breaking into the second-floor patio door to Swift’s Franklin Street home around 2:20 a.m., sources said.

When cops arrived, the door was open but it isn’t clear if Alvarado made it inside.

Swift, who has an order of protection against Alvarado, was not home at the time, sources added.

Just last month, the 22-year-old fanatic was sentenced to six months in jail as part of a plea deal for breaking into the same home in April.

Kate Beckinsale gives cheeky response to passionate Pete Davidson make out session

The 45-year-old actress left a cheeky comment on an Instagram post of a meme showing her and the “Saturday Night Live” star kissing while “Queer Eye” star Antoni Porowski sat next to them at a hockey game last weekend.

The meme, posted by user dietbroke_, labeled Davidson as the “guys with problems from childhood who I can ‘fix,’” while Beckinsale was “me.” Porowski, sitting awkwardly next to them, was the “wholesome guys with good paying jobs who text back and have no baggage.”

“Antoni is gay, if that helps clarify at all,” Beckinsale commented on the post.

Beckinsale and Davidson, 25, seemed to confirm dating rumors on Sunday when they were pictured making out in Madison Square Garden during the hockey game between the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals.

Beckinsale has since continued to respond to social media users’ comments about her new man.

“Dear heavens, Kate. Not Pete Davidson,” one user commented on Beckinsale’s black-and-white photo of her mother, actress Judy Loe, in January.

“No that’s my mother. Easy mistake,” Beckinsale responded.

Did Prince Harry Just Reveal How Many Kids He’d Like To Have?

Prince Harry may seem like an eager expectant father who can’t wait to start raising a child army with his new wife Meghan Markle, but it turns out, he may want to raise more of a brigade.

According The Daily Mail’s royal expert, Rebecca English, this new information was shared during a recent reception for Prince Charles, marking the 50th anniversary of his investiture as the Prince of Wales

One of the guests, British army vet Simon Weston, gave Harry some parenting advice.

“I warned him and the duchess [that]…they will be getting plenty of sleepless nights when the baby is born. He said if they have any more than two [kids], it will serve him right,” Weston told English, who relayed the story on Twitter.

Maybe he only wants two kids because he fears the current state of the world.

During a roundtable discussion back in January, Harry says he’s worried about the impact the environment will have on his future children.

“As someone who is about to become a father, I am acutely aware of our shared responsibility to make this world more resilient and its inhabitants more accountable for the next generation,” he said. “The only way to see real progress is not by chance, it’s by change.”

Fast Food Has Gotten Worse For Your Health

They don’t make fast food like they used to. In the case of calorie counts of menu items, this is literally true. According to a new study, fast food has increased by 30 calories over the course of the past 30 years, while desserts have seen a 62 calorie hike.

Published in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the study examined 10 different restaurants and their food in 1986, 1991, and 2016. Arby’s, Burger King, Carl’s Jr, Dairy Queen, Hardee’s, Jack in the Box, KFC, Long John Silver’s, McDonald’s and Wendy’s were all put under the microscope in the study.

Not only did calories rise, so did sodium content with a 4.6 percent increase per decade of daily recommended values. While the size of side dishes remained the same, portions for entrees rose by 13 grams per decade and 24 grams for desserts. In addition, menu items have all increased by staggering amounts. Over the time period of the researchers’ focus, entrée, sides, and dessert items increased by 226 percent, or 22.9 more menu items a year.

“Despite the vast number of choices offered at fast food restaurants, some of which are healthier than others, the calories, portion sizes and sodium content overall have worsened over time and remain high,” the study’s lead investigator, Megan McCroy, said in a statement.

Authors of the study researched fast food because Americans eat an exorbitant amount of it. Nearly 40 percent of American adults have eaten fast food in the past 24 hours, a different study indicated. More surprisingly, fast food intake tends to rise with similar increases in income levels.

Meanwhile, another study showed the consumption of “ultra-processed” foods like sugar cereal and candy directly impacted your chances of getting cancer.

“Given the popularity of fast food, our study highlights one of the changes in our food environment that is likely part of the reason for the increase in obesity and related chronic conditions over the past several decades, which are now among the main causes of death in the U.S.,” McCroy said.

5 Signs You’re In A Controlling Relationship

0

A harmful and toxic partner can be hard to spot. And although many of us can show symptoms of toxic behavior, no matter our gender, age or sexual preference, it’s important to know the difference between a controlling person and someone who is just occasionally jealous.

Psychology Today reports that toxic people can be stereotypical bullies, but can also be much harder to spot. It’s important to stay informed and to know the signs of toxic people and toxic relationships in order to terminate them or try to find some solution. Here are 4 signs that you’re in a toxic relationship:

Your partner uses guilt as a tool

https://giphy.com/gifs/guilty-Z0UbOxw1HwTkY

Toxic partners can make their significant other feel very guilty over everyday things. And they can use this guilt later on as a way of winning arguments and getting what they want. This behavior is very common in toxic relationships, making victims feel bad for whatever they did and apologize over it, giving up their power.

You don’t have other meaningful relationships

https://giphy.com/gifs/hello-adele-im-sorry-but-the-beginning-of-song-its-very-familiar-BVStb13YiR5Qs

Isolating you is an easy way for a toxic person to gain control of you, cutting you from your support network and making you feel like the most special and necessary relationship in your life is with them.

Your partner’s jealousy gets in the way of your life

https://giphy.com/gifs/leslie-knope-parks-and-recreation-101S8h2R6UZ9MA

Jealousy is a common behavior that most people have experienced. It should be managed since it can easily escalate into something harmful and toxic. Intense jealousy is scary, and should always be monitored, especially if it becomes a recurrent problem in your life.

You’re always being criticized

https://giphy.com/gifs/sharknado-ZwrOBGxa7L3gs

RELATED: 4 Signs That Indicate You Might Be Polyamorous, Even If You’re Single

Constructive criticism is positive and helpful. Painful and mean criticism is not. It’s also a clear sign of a controlling person. The latter is usually constant and is sparked over little things, like appearance. These nit-picky, mean-spirited critiques can really harm your self-esteem and make you feel small and weak if you let them.

You find yourself avoiding fights

https://giphy.com/gifs/jealous-xeaSOqk2MrAas

You should be able to have a voice in your relationship and not be afraid to speak up. If you find yourself controlling what you’re saying in order to avoid a fight, that usually means that your partner has succeeded in manipulating and controlling you.

Researchers Have Statistical Proof That The Munchies Really Do Exist

Ah, the munchies. That stoner turn of phrase for when someone finds themselves deep within the haze of marijuana smoke, craving the junkiest of junk foods. While research over the past couple of years indicates that cannabis can be used to lose weight, many have used the munchies defense to indulge in snack food binges after getting high.

“A widespread urban myth is that marijuana consumption is associated with the so-called munchies, namely an irresistible urge to consume large amounts of snack or junk food, such as ice cream, cookies, candies and the like,” researchers wrote regarding a new study that focused on the effect legalizing marijuana had on snack food sales.

RELATED: How I Lost 50 Pounds Using Cannabis

Published in the Social Science Research Network, the study found sales of cookies, potato chips, and ice cream all increased in regions where recreational cannabis was legalized. Using monthly scanner retail data from 2006 to 2016, researchers discovered increases in chip sales by 5.3 percent, cookie sales by 4.1 percent, and ice cream sales by 3.1 percent.

“The increase in sales starts at the time of the legislation becomes effective,” researchers wrote. “The effect slightly decreases in the semesters thereafter for ice cream and chips, but not for cookies.”

RELATED: Why Mangoes And Marijuana Are A Match Made In Heaven

The professors behind the study—Alberto Chong from Georgia State University and Michele Baggio from the University of Connecticut—emphasized the statistical significance of those numbers, even though they don’t appear to be that large. Their point: “It is rather important to understand not only the direct impact of cannabis use but also any unintended behavioral spillover effects.”

“I’m not an advocate for legalization or not,” Baggio told Medical News Today. “I’m just interested in whether there are unintended consequences to the policy.”
