Marijuana Confiscations Tripled At Canadian Border Following Legalization

Canada has some fine fare when it comes to nugs, but it’s still not a good idea to try and bring pot back over the U.S. border after a trip to our northern neighbors’ legalized haven. Pot seizures are up around 140 percent since Canada legalized, and mailed herb is also getting snagged more often.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection and WGRZ News, in October 2017, around two pounds of marijuana was seized, in 40 incidents, across the entire border. In October 2018, the numbers went up: 85 pounds were seized in over 100 occurrences.

RELATED: Could Canada Use Nevada’s Marijuana Shortage Protocol?

It would be more than nice if the U.S. would open its own policies up to have cannabis not be federally illegal. Clearly reciprocity would go down. Though the seizures are from the Canadian side to the U.S., if we were able to do trade with Canada, our own cultivars would be very popular there. Exports would be booming, especially from the famous regions of weed growing in California, like Humboldt County and the rest of the Emerald Triangle.

The increase in cannabis seizures coincided with an uptick in seizures of other drugs, like cocaine and prescriptions, though those numbers are much lower. It seems the drug of choice, at least for U.S. citizens wandering north, is pretty much cannabis.

And the cannabis numbers are relatively small as well. That’s not a lot of weed being taken considering the length of the border, the amount of pot smokers crossing it on the daily and the resources set aside for such seizures.

RELATED: Canada Can Combat Marijuana’s Black Market By Following California’s Lead

In November of this year, 197 separate seizures occurred versus the 123 that went down last year. Last year, November was the first full month of legalization, again, though there is a marked increase, the numbers are still relatively low for the amount of border crossing that are continually happening.

Smaller numbers or not, it’s best to leave your leftovers in Canada before coming back home. There are consequences to smuggling even small amounts of marijuana over the border, including and up to incarceration and passport problems. Be aware and be cool. And don’t forget to do a double check of your pockets and hand bags before crossing.

Meme Of The Week: Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’ Looks Super Creepy But The Memes Are Funny

0

Jordan Peele’s Get Out was a Hollywood sensation, cementing him as visionary director and deepening the conversation about race and onscreen representation. His much anticipated follow-up is another star-studded horror movie and it looks just as amazing and promising as you’d expect.

Starring Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Elizabeth Moss, the film tells the story of a family who is terrorized by four strangers that look exactly like them. Filled with creepy and already iconic imagery, the storyline looks as if it follows the classical home invasion model of movies, only much more thought provoking. Since the trailer’s release, it’s been viewed over 8,000,000 times, making it the perfect subject for memes.

Iggy Azalea Defends Finishing Concert as Backup Dancer Suffers a Seizure Mid-Song

Iggy Azalea experienced a terrifying moment when one of her backup dancers suffered a seizure during a concert.

The incident took place on Thursday night, when Iggy was performing for a concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The rapper was singing her song “Black Widow,” when one of her three dancers suddenly fell to the floor in front of the shocked audience. Iggy continued to perform, unaware of the severity of the young woman’s condition. She immediately called for a medic to come onstage, before eventually finishing out the show.

However, the Australian native became the subject of much criticism because of her decision to let the show go on. Iggy later defended herself against the claims on Instagram, where she also gave an update on the dancer’s condition.

In her statement, Iggy wrote: “Just want to let everyone asking know my dancer is OKAY!”

“The light & heat caused her to have a seizure,” Azalea explained. “She is backstage feeling much better.”

Industry Leaders Consult Cannabis Crystal Ball For 2019 Forecasts

The Green Market Report asked industry leaders what they think 2019 will bring to the cannabis industry.

Alex Waysl, CEO, Nexien Biopharma

“In 2019, following the signing of The Farm Bill, there will be increasingly clear FDA regulatory oversight on cannabis and cannabinoids. As a result of the FDA’s current stance per The Farm bill, we anticipate that the medical cannabis focus will shift toward a stronger pharmaceutical interest, built on cannabinoids as molecules with targeted therapeutic applications. With quickly changing perceptions about the various uses for cannabinoids and increased depth of knowledge about the therapeutic benefits of these molecules, we anticipate pre-clinical scientific research on cannabinoids and cannabinoid-based pharmaceutical formulation to be on the rise in 2019.”

Khurram Malik, CEO, Biome Grow

“Within the Canadian market, I think more provinces will embrace the private retail model in 2019, while still having some level of provincial oversight. Ontario’s move to private retail will be the catalyst for this. I also foresee larger Canadian cannabis companies quarterly results in the first half of 2019 will likely show a large amount of export-related sales to international medical markets where the margins are better for them than the domestic recreational market.”

Peter Vogel, CEO, Leafwire

“2019 will be the year of the brands. In the early stages of legalization, consumers would go into a dispensary and just buy anything; they were just excited to buy cannabis legally. Now, though, after many markets are maturing, experienced shoppers are starting to pick favorite brands and are developing loyalties. This means that it’s more important than ever for brands to have a wide breadth of offerings – applications, dosages, flavors, and more. Consumers will remain loyal as long as there is a large enough variety of products to choose from within a brand family. This also means that brands will be spending considerable amounts of money on marketing and promotional campaigns.”

“Governing bodies will begin to see that recreational is a chance to highly regulate the cannabis market and collect taxes and there will be a push for federal legalization that will result in more uniform rules.”

How To: 5 Tips To Celebrate But Not Puke On New Year’s Eve

New Year’s Eve is a night famous for overindulgence. Sometimes it seems as if all the party energy that didn’t get used up in the previous 364 days is let loose on December 31.

For many revelers, New Year’s celebrations involve drug use.  Even if you’re just drinking, it pays to be thoughtful about the ways in which mind-altering chemicals will affect your party plans.

Here are a few things you may want to keep in mind:

TIP # 1: Know your intoxication “goals”

via GIPHY

Before New Year’s Eve, review your mental state.  Are you stinging from a difficult holiday with the family and looking to forget things?  Are you excited but nervous about being in a new venue or around people not that familiar to you?  Understanding your set and setting is basic for safer drug use.  Compare this to your past experience with drugs (if any).  This will help you know which drugs (if any) may be right for your night out.

RELATED: How To Work The Week Between Christmas And New Year’s

TIP # 2: Test it before you ingest it

If you’re planning on doing something other than just drinking, get yourself sorted out well in advance.  Due to our prohibition-based drug laws, whatever product you choose is coming from an unregulated market.  Understand that “my friend says it’s okay” or “I trust my guy” could give you a false sense of security.  You’ll want to check whatever you have to make sure it is what you were expecting.  Drug-checking kits are available for purchase via DanceSafe or Bunk Police, or hopefully you already have one.

TIP # 3: Have a plan

via GIPHY

Whether it’s alcohol or other drugs, once you start down that path, you are less likely to make well thought-out choices. So make those choices ahead of time, and try to get some consensus about them among the group of friends you’ll be with.  And if plans change, pay special attention to how you’re getting from one venue to the next. There’s no excuse for driving or letting your friends drive when there are taxis and companies like Lyft to help out. Don’t let Uber’s surge-pricing deter you from making responsible transportation choices.

TIP # 4: Don’t mix intoxicants (but…)

The best plan is to pick one substance and stick with it for a more controllable experience. But for those of us who live in the real world, your best bet is to do one thing at a time. There’s plenty of hours in the night – if you’re going to start by drinking, taper off at least an hour or two before starting something else.  Or if you know in advance you can’t hold to that rule, at least research drug interactions on Erowid.org. Read up on what you’re in for and find safer ways to combine.

Oh, and just in case it’s 3 a.m. on New Year’s and you’re like, HELP, I DIDN’T FOLLOW ANY OF THOSE TIPS…

TIP # 5, a.k.a. The Golden Tip: Have a buddy/Be a buddy

via GIPHY

The best thing you can do is talk to a responsible friend about what you’re planning and ask them to keep an eye on you.  Caveat: this person cannot be going along the same path of indulgence as you. Choose someone who’s staying sober (bless those people!) or indulging lightly.

Regardless of your state, keep an eye out for others – even those you don’t know – who may need some help.

These are just the basics. Feel free to add other tips in the comments.

Whatever you decide to do, I hope everyone remembers to #besafehavefun this New Year’s Eve.

Joe Rogan Has Harsh Words For Corporate Marijuana

As one of the more synonymous and outspoken celebrities on cannabis we have, when Joe Rogan has a marijuana-related opinion, people listen. Rogan has invited conservative pundits like Steven Crowder and Ted Nugent onto the podcast, and inevitably debated cannabis legalization with them. He also smoked weed with Elon Musk, not that anyone remembers that.

On a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience, the host discussed cannabis legalization with fellow comedian Joey Diaz. Referencing happenings in Canada and Ohio, Rogan slammed possible monopolies creeping out of the nascent industry. He worries about corporations taking over and squeezing out opportunities for regular folks to profit in the cannabis industry.

“So weed is gonna be legal, but only a couple of companies can grow it and monopolize?” Rogan said. “That is such a corruption, that’s like saying: you can have tomatoes, but we are the only ones that can grow these fucking tomatoes. Like why? It’s a fucking tomato! That’s a law against nature.”

“It’s legal or its not legal, otherwise we are in some weird dictatorship,” he added.

Diaz, who is also a noted cannabis enthusiast and activist, also brought up Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s recent comments about legalizing cannabis for adult use in New York. Both comedians supported that happening, though Rogan took it one step further, saying that magic mushrooms should be legalized and a structure should be established for clinicals and medical treatment.

“It’s gonna be good for everybody,” Rogan said. “It’s gonna be good for capitalism, it’s gonna be good for people getting marijuana. As long as regular people can sell marijuana too.”

You can watch the comedians’ full discussion above.

Jeff Goldblum Talks About His Experiences With Psychedelic Drugs

When it comes to the internet’s favorite celebrities, Jeff Goldblum is consistently rated near the top. Think about it: If someone told you they absolutely despised Jeff Goldblum, you’d assume something was a little bit off about them. Either that or they really hated dinosaurs.

What we’re saying is this: Goldblum, the person, is arguably more likable than the characters he plays. Watching this recent Pitchfork interview, where he breaks down his experiences with psychedelics, you’ll understand why the internet loves him so much.

“My experience with psychedelics goes like this,” Goldblum told Pitchfork. “When I was 20 in 1971, I took mescaline three times. I had a grand time on that every time. I saw Fellini’s ‘Satyricon’ with a group of people. and it was a double-bill with The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine.’ Oh, boy, I was into it.”

But it was Goldblum’s experiment with acid where he says the real fun begins. He tried LSD that same year in a Brooklyn apartment. He took it while playing conga drums as the Rolling Stones Let It Bleed LP played in the background. The effects took so long to kick in, Goldblum didn’t remember he’d taken anything.

“Maybe nothing happens [I thought.] By the end of the song, I was not like I was on the mescalin. I’d forgotten that I’d taken a substance of some kind,” Goldblum said. “Everything was just now different. I was high, very high, pathetically high.”

Goldblum then admits he’s “strictly these days, as is. I come as is.” However, the actor wouldn’t recommend dropping acid and watching Jurassic Park.

“I don’t want you to have a bad trip,” he told Pitchfork. “You take that acid, and you might get scared.”

Miley Cyrus confirms her wedding to Liam Hemsworth with some intimate photos

Khloe Kardashian & baby True didn’t spend Christmas with Tristan Thompson

Tristan Thompson did not make it to Los Angeles for the Kar-Jenner crew’s holiday festivities, because as a source explains it, he “doesn’t have a lot of flexibility” in his basketball schedule. The Cleveland Cavaliers forward played a game on Dec. 23 and has another today, leaving little opportunity for the couple to spend their daughter’s first Christmas together.

The insider tells E! News that because Khloe spent Thanksgiving with Tristan in Cleveland, she wanted to give baby True an opportunity to experience the magical holiday with her famous relatives.

“Khloe wanted to be in L.A. with her family for Christmas,” the source shares.

Meghan Markle Hinted At Her Due Date On Christmas Day

Meghan Markle spoke about her pregnancy with a delighted fan on Christmas day, as the royal family stepped out for church services together in Sandringham, England.

“She said, ‘We are excited. We’re nearly there,’” royal fan Karen Anvil told E! News in a report published Wednesday. “I said, ‘Enjoy every moment, being a mother is a wonderful thing.’”

Anvil added that the Duchess of Sussex was “so genuine.”

“She was doing her duty as a royal with the crowds, shaking hands, etc.,” she said. “But when I asked her about the baby, she changed totally. She was glowing and instinctively went for her stomach. It was lovely.”

The Duchess of Sussex joked about naming her child during the couple’s trip to Australia in October, telling a fan in Melbourne, “We’ve been given a long list of names from everyone, we’re going to sit down and have a look at them.”

Arianne Chernock, an associate professor of modern British history at Boston University, speculated over what Harry and Meghan will name their child, considering they will have “a lot more flexibility” than Prince William and Kate Middleton.

“I suspect that Meghan and Harry certainly will include some nod in at least one of the names to the royal family and tradition. But they have more latitude, and I would not be shocked at all if they honor Meghan’s side of the family as well as Harry’s,” Chernock said.

5 Sex Tips For Couples Who Want To Get Kinky For New Year’s

The New Year is just around the corner and it might put some couples in a fun and innovative mood, which is awesome. According to different sex therapists, kink exists on a spectrum and it’s totally okay. You don’t need to buy sex toys or go to an orgy to try something new with your sex life and discover some satisfying results.

Sex therapists and experts have advice for anyone that’s looking to spice up their sex life, no matter their age, knowledge and sexual orientation. Here are 5 tips.

Forget about male/female

Chris Maxwell, sex educator and developer of Pleasure Mechanics online courses, spoke with The Huffington Post and explained that gender liberation provides benefits for people of all genders. “If there is something you have always held back from exploring or expressing, now is the time to begin thinking about giving yourself permission. That might be as simple as a baking class or auto mechanics, or maybe you are ready to explore butt play or spanking!” he says.

Exploring what feels taboo and like something you shouldn’t naturally enjoy can make you feel excited and bond with your partner. You can also have some fun, which is what matters at the end of the day.

Indulge in your fantasies

https://giphy.com/gifs/pbskids-yes-excited-29rsFlMw8wLlxOCPH1

Familiar sex can be predictable, which can make things a little boring and repetitive. There’s nothing wrong with that, but if you’re feeling the need to try different things and spice things up, New Year’s is a good time for this, providing plenty of options for those who want to explore some dirty fun. “Before adding variety, ask yourself what you currently find lacking and what you think might make it more exciting,” says sex therapist Jesse Kahn.

Talk openly with your partner

https://giphy.com/gifs/season-3-the-simpsons-3×7-xT5LMy4uAZko02pWUM

Have an honest discussion with your partner about the things you’re interested in trying out. It’s very important for both of you to be on the same page and to know your limits. The thing you want to avoid is you or your partner freaking out and finding themselves on a position that will be remembered for all the wrong reasons.

Focus on your breathing

RELATED: There’s Now A Word For When Your Ex Reappears During The Holidays

According to Maxwell, breathing exercises and practices are the most important and life-changing practices someone can learn, capable of energizing and relaxing you while having sex. “Everyone needs to breathe more during sex. Start by taking a few deep breaths while you are getting aroused and notice what happens.”

Practice the platinum rule

https://giphy.com/gifs/heyarnold-nickelodeon-hey-arnold-xT1R9HBb6l6GIlChLW

Sex therapist Megan Fleming calls the platinum rule the best thing you can do in order to have good sex, asking you to do unto your partner what they’d like to do to themselves. This rule asks you to do what turns them on the most instead of what you think turns them on more, or what you personally enjoy.

4 New Year’s Resolutions For The Weed Aficionado

0

It’s the end of December, which means it’s time for New Year’s Resolutions. Most people choose a boring one, like losing weight, eating healthier, or giving up booze for January. If you need help with any of those resolutions, we can’t help and you should check another website. if you’re someone who smokes or otherwise ingests a fair amount of marijuana and you’re looking for some easy New Year’s Resolutions, you’re in the right place. Here are 4 New Year’s resolutions for the weed aficionado.

Pick A Regular Smoking Schedule

https://giphy.com/gifs/oc-jobs-ability-iJVbodB91yLDO

While there’s nothing wrong, per se, with smoking weed every day, you’re probably better off having occasional sober stretches. To help you do so, we suggest keeping a regular calendar of smoking days.

RELATED: 6 Ways To Develop Healthy Marijuana Habits In 2019

One good option is smoking only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays because it helps you get through the weekends and work week while keeping you fresh for the worst days (Monday and Wednesday). You could also give yourself three smoking days a week; once they’re up, you have to wait until the next Monday before sparking up again.

Switch To A Vaporizer

While the science on vaporizers isn’t 100% conclusive, many believe the vapor they produce is a healthier alternative to smoke. So why not err on the side of probable health benefits and invest in a decent vape. We have friends who argue they don’t hit as hard or provide as strong a high, but we feel otherwise, especially if you use a premium model like a Pax.

Smoke Before The Gym

What better way to get fit in the New Year than by getting a little blazed first. We, of course, advocate safety first, so don’t take a huge gravity bong rip before going to bulk up, but a few simple puffs can lead to a mellow high that can really make any workout at least a little tolerable.

Share With A Friend

There’s no better way to start 2019 than with a little bit of bud and a lot of generosity. And good luck with your 4 New Year’s resolutions for the weed aficionado.
