Kate Middleton is feeling the pressure of having Meghan Markle join the Royal family. And while Kate might be forced to share the spotlight, she is certainly not sharing the Royal jewels.

“Kate has been wearing a lot of the Royal jewels recently, sending a message to Meghan that they are hers,” sources tell Straight Shuter. “Princess Diana left her personal jewelry collection to both her sons but it has basically not been touched since her death. Now, Kate has cracked open the Diana vault and put those diamonds on. She wants to make it clear that they belong to her and she will not be sharing.”

Taylor Swift Bans Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan surprised everyone when she just turned up uninvited to Jingle Ball at Madison Square Garden. Lindsay didn’t have a ticket so instead hung out backstage with everyone except Taylor Swift.

“Lindsay just turned up and no one really knew what to do with her. There was a big room backstage to hold Katie Holmes and the other celebrity presenters but Lindsay wasn’t presenting or introducing anyone. All the musical artists had their own dressing rooms but Lindsay wasn’t performing. She was left to just wander around backstage,” sources tell Straight Shuter. “Ed Sheeran was kind enough to stop and take pictures with Lindsay but Taylor Swift wanted nothing to do with her. Taylor’s dressing room was where all the cool kids were hanging out. Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively and Ed were all spending time with Taylor while Lindsay was not allowed anywhere near her.”

An Open Letter To Jeff Sessions: Please Rethink Your Position On Marijuana

Dear Attorney General Sessions:

Speaking on behalf of the tens of thousands of legal cannabis businesses, and the more than 150,000 workers employed in the legal cannabis industry, we ask you to rethink your decision to rescind the Cole Memorandum. Cannabis Prohibition has been a costly-disaster — for the country at large, and to millions of Americans who have been arrested, imprisoned, lost jobs and scholarships, all for the use or possession of small amounts of a plant.  We ask that you end this failed policy, and join the majority of Americans on both sides of the political spectrum who recognize is time to move beyond the failed policies of America’s War on Drugs.

In the five years since the voters of Colorado and Washington voted in adult-use cannabis, we have witnessed the birth of a responsible, professional industry that serves millions of adult customers in a safe and compliant manner.  Working effectively with state regulators, the legal cannabis industry is growing responsibly, and building the foundations of a scalable, profitable industry — one that is already generating hundreds of millions in new state tax revenues, creating jobs and economic vitality in once-depressed communities.

The legal cannabis industry is led by socially-responsible business leaders who share your concern about the opioid crisis.  Under legalization, cannabis products are carefully inspected, tested, packaged and sold under strict State supervision.   Licensed retail establishments are required to maintain rigorous security and compliance technology, and customers are carded, oftentimes twice, to ensure no illegal sales to minors happens.

Our legal industry — which represents the fastest growing segment of our economy — operates at a severe disadvantage.  As a result of being considered a Schedule 1 drug, legal state businesses are unable to secure loans or commercial credit, are banned from working with many banks, and pay penalizing fees, surcharges and taxes.

In the past five years, the legal cannabis industry has been encouraged by the support of enlightened politicians from both parties who seek to move beyond prohibition. We thank folks like Congressman Earl Blumenauer, Congressman Dana Rohrabacher and members of the Congressional Cannabis Caucus, along with Senator Corey Booker, Senator Rand Paul and backers of the CARERS Act for their fine work.  It is a start, but there is much work to be done to unravel the hairball of a failed policy that 80 years of prohibition has woven.

Attorney General Sessions, please rethink your decision and join us –  we seek a partner in the Federal Government, not an adversary, as together we work to redefine a post-prohibition America.

A woman from Nanjing, China claims that her coworker has been able to crack her phone’s facial identification software twice. She reports that she got a replacement for her phone when it first failed, and that her coworker was able to beat that one too.

The Huffington Post claims that Apple doesn’t have enough information to confirm or deny the details of the story, and that they can’t determine what’s wrong with the phones or why the facial recognition software is failing. One explanation the Apple spokesperson suggests is that both women tried to use the phones during their “passcode training” stage, teaching them to recognize their faces without knowing about it.

Some glitches in the software have been reported elsewhere, specifically when it comes to the phone confusing twins and not recognizing the faces of people under 13 years of age, whose facial features aren’t as defined as adults. While some people are still skeptical on the technology, Apple assures that the facial recognition software is safe, protecting phones much more than with touch ID technology. The company explained that the probability of someone cracking the facial recognition software is of 1 in 1 million versus the odds of someone cracking the touch ID, which is of 1 and 50,000.

We’ll probably never know what’s up with those failing iPhones in China. The errors in the software will surely be fixed in the next generations of iPhone X. In any case, facial recognition technology will be available in most mainstream smartphones within a short period of time. Windows is already using the tech to unlock some of their laptops.

Even though Meghan Markle’s dad expressed his excitement to walk his daughter down the aisle, several sources believe that the “Suits” actress wants her mother to do the honor when her wedding day comes.

The wedding is set for May 19th, and Elle magazine believes that Doria Ragland, Markle’s mom, will be the one who’ll walk her daughter down the aisle.

This will be another tradition broken by Markle, who will be the first American since 1937, to marry into the royal family, and who recently became the first non-royal member of the monarchy to spend Christmas with them at their house in Sandringham.

After spending Christmas in the country, the couple spent New Year’s in the French Riviera, where they took an economy flight while trying to keep a low profile.

Ragland is a social worker and a yoga instructor from California who has a very close relationship with her daughter.

Jeff Sessions Rescinds Cole Memo, Launches Crackdown On Marijuana

Just days after California became the sixth state to allow legal marijuana sales, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Thursday that he is rescinding Obama-era policies that have essentially allowed states to move forward with legal cannabis. The news, first reported by the Associated Press, sent shockwaves throughout the nation.

The move, which breaks a campaign promise made by Donald Trump, will certainly create havoc in the multi-billion cannabis industry — and leave millions of consumers scratching their collective heads.

Sen. Cory Gardner, a Colorado Republican who has witnessed the cannabis industry flourish for four years in his state, promised to fight the move. “This reported action directly contradicts what Attorney General Sessions told me prior to his confirmation,” Gardner wrote on Twitter early Thursday morning. “With no prior notice to Congress, the Justice Department has trampled on the will of the voters in CO and other states.

“I am prepared to take all steps necessary, including holding DOJ nominees, until the Attorney General lives up to the commitment he made to me prior to his confirmation,” Gardner added on Twitter.

In 2013, a memo created by then-Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole, the Department of Justice ordered U.S. attorneys to deprioritize enforcement of federal laws on cannabis in states that choose to experiment with legalization. Cannabis remains illegal under federal law, creating a conflict between federal and state law.

“Jeff Sessions’ obsession with marijuana prohibition defies logic, threatens successful state-level reforms, and flies in the face of widespread public support for legalization,” said Maria McFarland Sánchez-Moreno, executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance. “It’s now time for Congress to put the brakes on Sessions’ destructive agenda by limiting the Justice Department’s ability to undermine states’ decision making.”

Sessions, who has spent his political career railing about the evils of marijuana, last year said, “Good people don’t smoke marijuana.” But at his confirmation hearing last January, he went on record saying he saw value in the Obama administration’s policy regarding cannabis. “I won’t commit to never enforcing federal law,” he said, “but absolutely it’s a problem of resources for the federal government.”  Trump, in an interview while campaigning for president in 2016, promised he would not employ federal agencies to thwart states who have opted to legalize marijuana. “I think it’s up to the states,” Trump said in July 2016. “I am a states person. I think it should be up to the states. Absolutely.”

According to an October Gallup poll, 64 percent of adults believe cannabis should be legal for all adults, while a 94 percent of voters believe in legalizing medical marijuana. Among Republicans, 51 percent support marijuana legalization.

“By rescinding the Cole Memo, Jeff Sessions is acting on his warped desire to return America to the failed beliefs of the ‘Just Say No’ and Reefer Madness eras,” Erik Altieri, NORML executive director, said in a statement. “This action flies in the face of sensible public policy and broad public opinion. The American people overwhelmingly support the legalization of marijuana and oppose federal intervention in state marijuana laws by an even wider margin,” he added.

“This move by the Attorney General will prove not just to be a disaster from a policy perspective, but from a political one. The American people will not just sit idly by while he upends all the progress that has been made in dialing back the mass incarceration fueled by marijuana arrests and destabilizes an industry that is now responsible for over 150,000 jobs,” Altieri continued. “Ending our disgraceful war on marijuana is the will of the people and the Trump Administration can expect severe backlash for opposing it.”

Twenty-nine states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories of Guam and Puerto Rico have medical marijuana programs currently in effect. Cannabis is legal and regulated for adults in eight states.

“There is absolutely no reason the federal government should be wasting resources interfering in regulated marijuana programs, and this policy decision is a signal to throw that wisdom out the window,” said Morgan Fox, director of communications for the Marijuana Policy Project. “Federal law enforcement has real issues to worry about rather than targeting legitimate tax-paying businesses that create jobs and steer the marijuana market away from criminals. Jeff Sessions is clearly out of touch with his own department, the President, and the American people.”

AG Sessions issued this memo to all United States Attorneys:

SUBJECT: Marijuana Enforcement

The Department of Justice today issued a memo on federal marijuana enforcement policy announcing a return to the rule of law and the rescission of previous guidance documents. Since the passage of the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) in 1970, Congress has generally prohibited the cultivation, distribution, and possession of marijuana.

In the memorandum, Attorney General Jeff Sessions directs all U.S. Attorneys to enforce the laws enacted by Congress and to follow well-established principles when pursuing prosecutions related to marijuana activities. This return to the rule of law is also a return of trust and local control to federal prosecutors who know where and how to deploy Justice Department resources most effectively to reduce violent crime, stem the tide of the drug crisis, and dismantle criminal gangs.

“It is the mission of the Department of Justice to enforce the laws of the United States, and the previous issuance of guidance undermines the rule of law and the ability of our local, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement partners to carry out this mission,” said Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “Therefore, today’s memo on federal marijuana enforcement simply directs all U.S. Attorneys to use previously established prosecutorial principles that provide them all the necessary tools to disrupt criminal organizations, tackle the growing drug crisis, and thwart violent crime across our country.”

Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle flew out of the billionaire tax haven of Monaco on a helicopter today after celebrating New Year ‘partying like tycoons’. A source on the French Riviera told MailOnline that the couple arrived on December 31st and met up with friends. There was speculation that the group may have included Prince Albert, and his wife, Princess Charlene, who are the most senior royals in the millionaires’ playground in the south of France.

‘Monte Carlo is party central at this time of the year and the word is that the British Royals really enjoyed themselves,’ a source in the principality said. ‘What’s certain is that they were partying like tycoons on New Year’s Day. Fun around Monaco is never understated, and always costs a fortune.’

The couple’s trip to Monaco was kept as private as possible, thanks to a massive security operation. Three bodyguards accompanied them on a British Airways flight from London to the French city of Nice on New Year’s Eve, when they took up three rows of economy seats. There was no first class on the short flight, but when they got to Nice they boarded helicopters for the seven-minute hop to Monte Carlo. They spent two nights in the principality, and were then seen boarding helicopters again at 11am on Tuesday morning. The loved-up royal couple’s private flight was a considerable upgrade from their economy trip to Nice – where they are said to have sat beside the toilets among other passengers.

Caitlyn Jenner, 68, told “Piers Morgan’s Life Stories” that ex-wife Kris Jenner did not know she had surgery until she wrote it in her memoir.

When she sent a copy of her memoir The Secrets Of My Life to Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian before publication, it did not include the last few pages in which she “talked about gender confirmation”.

Asked who knew, Jenner explained: “No, I didn’t tell anybody. Why? It’s none of their business.”

On whether her gender transition was the business of her ex-wife and the family, she said: “No, it’s not that big a deal. Nobody knows.

“I had to be honest, the book is about honesty. It’s called The Secrets of My Life.

“I had already been living as Caitlyn for a year and a half, OK, nobody knows anything.”

Asked by Piers Morgan if keeping the revealing part of her book from the Kardashians was “wilfully deceptive”, Jenner responded: “Because I didn’t want them to leak it to the press.

“And there was no reason for them to know about it.”

Jenner said: “Of course I didn’t trust them, yeah. I hate to inform the Kardashians that the book was not about them.”

“The Kardashian side – I really don’t talk to them very often. I just kind of deal with that,” she told hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

“Fortunately, I have a lot of children,” the Olympic gold medallist added, throwing some shade.

Speaking to students at Cambridge University, the 68-year-old said: “It’s been a little bit tough over the last couple of years on the Kardashian side.”

“To be honest, I don’t talk to them anymore. Kim, I haven’t talked to in a year.”

She continued: “They don’t want me in their lives, the bashed me pretty badly.

“It’s devastating when your kids do that. It really hurt,” Caitlyn told the Cambridge Union.

“I don’t know what the future holds. We will see.”

Footwear Expert Says Legal Marijuana May Hurt Shoe Retailers

Some stories just make you scratch your head in wonder. And this is just one of those stories. According to Footwear News (yes, there is such a thing), marijuana legalization will take the shine out of shoe sales.

Really? In the past, we have published stories highlighting that cannabis consumption may put a dent in beer sales. We’ve even written about how cannabis may diminish wine sales. But shoes?

Here’s how the Footwear News describes the shoe/cannabis situation:

The shoe business could face some very blunt news. Retailers based in California on Monday began to deal with a new potential threat: the legalization of marijuana.

One industry expert said the shift of consumers’ discretionary dollars is likely to harm footwear sales — in particular, sneakers. “Studies show marijuana sales could reach $50 billion in the US,” said Matt Powell, senior industry advisor at The NPD Group Inc. “When a new business of this magnitude comes online, it takes discretionary spending out of every industry.”

Powell went on to forecast that younger consumers in legal marijuana states will be redirecting their spending. “Young people, in particular, tend to be early adopters of new things in the marketplace,” he said. “My sense is that this cohort would be hurt harder.”

Powell’s point makes a little sense. Discretionary spending at some point becomes a zer0-sum game. Will a shoe shopper rather have an ounce of fine cannabis or a new pair of pumps?

“But my gut is that this is not good news for the footwear industry, that’s for sure. It’s going to have a huge impact,” Powell told Footwear News. “If you spend money on one thing, it’s money you don’t have to spend on something else. And your average 25-year-old already has so many expenses before they leave the home: student loans, car payments, Amazon Prime. That’s a significant portion of their income. They’re already committed to those payments.”

If you start seeing people walking barefoot with a vape pen between their lips, you’ll know why, we guess.
