Kermit The Frog Has A New Voice And It’s Getting Weird

When “Muppets”creator Jim Henson died in 1990, Steve Whitmire (Ernie, Rizzo the Rat, Beaker) took over as the voice of the beloved Kermit the Frog. Now, 27 years later, Kermie is getting a new voice. And Whitmire is heartbroken.

The job now belongs to Matt Vogel, a veteran puppeteer who’s been voicing characters since 1996, including Sergeant Floyd Pepper and, on occasion, Big Bird and Count von Count on “Sesame Street.”

In a heartfelt blog post, Whitmire says he was told last October that Kermit would be recast, but hasn’t released the reasons why, although he did say he offered “multiple remedies” to the reasons Muppet Studio execs gave for his firing.

“I am devastated to have failed in my duty to my hero,” Whitmire wrote, adding:

For me the Muppets are not just a job, or a career, or even a passion. They are a calling, an urgent, undeniable, impossible to resist way of life.

This is my life’s work since I was 19 years old. I feel that I am at the top of my game, and I want all of you who love the Muppets to know that I would never consider abandoning Kermit or any of the others because to do so would be to forsake the assignment entrusted to me by Jim Henson, my friend and mentor, but even more, my hero.

Whitmire says he wishes the execs would have come to him sooner to discuss what was on their minds before they took “such a drastic action.”

The Muppets Studio tells Time Magazine that they thank Steve “for his tremendous contributions to Kermit the Frog and The Muppets franchise. We wish him well in his future endeavors.”

If you’ve got seven minutes to spare, Muppet Voices And More put together a compilation detailing how Kermit’s voice has changed over the years. You can see (and hear) that his personality didn’t really develop until the mid 70s.

OOTD: KFC’S New Clothing Line Is Here And It’s Kinda Brilliant

If you like your outfits to reflect your fast-food desires, you’ll love this. KFC has debuted its own line of clothing. And not only that, some of the times have already sold out.

The limited line, which would give any Pinterest board a run for its money, includes a cold chain that reads “fingerlickingood” (sold out), a “World’s No. 1 Chicken Salesman” tee (ironically sold out), a sweatshirt for, ahem, $76 that reads “Fried Chicken USA,” an $80 chicken bucked framed print (sold out), enamel pins and what is potentially the best item on the list, a pillow with Col. Sanders mug on it so you can go to sleep dreaming of creepy old men with bow ties.

If you go to their website, there’s an entire look book with fashion models and everything. And somehow, they all look kind of…not terrible.

Here’s a quick Instagram vid that’s like a virtual catwalk of all the merchandise. Get your credit cards out!

In other “KFC as a lifestyle brand” news, the company has released a limited edition red smartphone (w/Col. Sanders on the back) to commemorate its 30 years of doing business in China.

The limited edition line of Huawei 7 Plus models cost 1,099 ( $162) through Tmall. Only 5,000 of the phones were made. KFC opened its first Chinese location in Tiananmen Square in 1987.

Make Your Own Marijuana Edibles Using A 3-D Printer

The future is here and it’s called Potent Rope — a new cannabis filament that allows you to print your own marijuana edibles on any 3-D printer.

Sisters Ashley Herr and Paige Colen developed the product that allows users to make their own small, fixed-dosage canna-snacks, right down to the milligram.

Here’s how it works: the material that’s printed is a water-soluble thermoplastic polymer that can be mixed with different cannabinoids and terpenes. Thermo what now? Thermoplastic. It may sound toxic, but you’ve likely already consumed a bunch of it in the form of  beer, wine, and teeth whitening strips. Fun fact: the average person ingests 44 pounds of thermoplastic every year. In scientific terms, it’s a digestible polymer that becomes pliable when heated.

But as 3ders.org reports, there may be an issue with printers getting contaminated with non-edible materials like PLA and ABS, which would require Potent Rope users to have a dedicated printer. They’re also suspicious that the market for this type of device is not sizable enough to support the product.

Potent Rope starts production later this year.

A Beginner’s Guide To Swinging: 5 Easy Steps

0

For starters, we all know what swingers are right? We’ve all heard the stories of couples who “swing” or who go to one of “those” parties where only other couples are invited. Swinging is kind of like polyamory, but more heteronormative and traditional, having existed since forever. These couples are not interested in disrupting their monogamy, they only want to have sex with other people with the approval of their “true” partner.

It sounds a little messy, but a lot of people claim that it’s super fun if everyone’s on the same page. If you and your partner are interested in getting a little kinky and exploring some more, follow these set of rules that’ll ensure that no one gets hurt in the process and that your relationship remains open and trustworthy:

Why And How?

https://giphy.com/gifs/cPKWZB2aaB3rO

It’s very important to figure out why you want to start swinging and tell your partner what you’re feeling. The environment between the two of you should be communicative and receptive, with no one feeling pressured to do something they don’t want to do. Swinging is great if you want to spice up your sex life or find a new sexual experience that you can share with your partner. If there’s an underlying issue in your relationship then swinging is not what you’re looking for, in fact, it’ll probably increase your problems and create a bigger rupture between you two.

Another important talking point to discuss with your partner is how you want to swing. There are all types of options according to your budget, from simple swinging neighborhood parties to more expensive ones like swinging cruises.

Be Clear About Your Rules

https://giphy.com/gifs/BYRlaCI2Ty13y

If you’re new to this whole thing, be clear about the things that scare you and what you’d like your partner to do or not to. Discuss same sex relationships and what to do if you’re at an event and want to leave. Is it okay for your partner to stay behind without you or will you both be leaving? The more open and communicative you are the better.

Swinging Clubs

https://giphy.com/gifs/1990s-beer-doug-liman-4ozA8GfPBAOvC

Google is your friend. Look for swingers clubs around your area and read around for reviews of the place and the people. Try it out if you feel like you and your partner are going to have a good time there and be open to new experiences and acquaintances.

Online Dating

https://giphy.com/gifs/yevbel-roland-luitgaarden-l3q2tVuK3M2XpH2j6

Tinder, Bumble, whichever online dating site you prefer, the internet’s full of them and they’re there for a reason. If you’re too scared to throw yourself into a swinging party then try to get out of your comfort zone through the use of the web. Try chatting online with several different people and meeting up if they seem like they’re the right fit. Don’t stress if it doesn’t work out; try again.

Be Confident

https://giphy.com/gifs/hulu-ugly-betty-l0HlxRdxVNoansDYc

If you want to attract different kinds of people then be sure to work on your persona, carving out your best and most attractive self. It’s very common for swingers to use fake names and create alter egos; if you’re into that, go for it.

Video Of Woman With Cerebral Palsy Changes Texans’ Minds About Marijuana

Kara Zartler has severe autism and cerebral palsy. She lives in Richardson, Texas with her parents’ where some of her symptoms are extremely self-violent. In the video her parents made, we see Kara punching herself in the head repeatedly, being hugged by her father to hinder violent throes and the discomfort and fear on Kara’s face are obvious.

In another video, Kara is shown inhaling marijuana through a nebulizer during a fit. As the flailing calms and so does Kara, another miracle of medical marijuana is demonstrated, its impact clearing a path to potential medical legalization.

An intern to State Representative Eddie Lucio III was so moved by the video of Kara, that he immediately showed it to Lucio III. After watching the before and after videos the Representative was amazed and, “inspired to try and do something.”

House Bill 2017 to legalize medical cannabis was soon born, and though over half of the Texas House of Representatives supported the bill, it just wasn’t enough. Lucio III says that he will be pushing the legislation every session from now on until it passes.

He has an upward battle. Though there is bipartisan support, the Senate was even more skeptical than the house and the bill died before ever going to committee.

At this point, Texas law allows for patients with epilepsy to use CBD oil. However, in so many cases the full plant is needed for full benefit. Texas also can’t fool itself. Texans smoke marijuana despite stringent laws and families like the Zartlers won’t be stopping anytime soon.

Sadly, not all the news was good that came of the video. CPS knocked about two weeks after the video went live. Father Mark Zartler now is on record as an abuser, but the case is now closed and the family remains together.

With over half of the United States sporting at least medical cannabis bills, the efforts of Representative Lucio III are more than encouraging. One can only hope they find ears and hearts to hear. When a harmless plant is the best bet for preventing harm, it’s cruel to withhold and thankfully the nation continues to wake up and smell the healing more and more each day.

Gossip: Caitlyn Jenner Defends Donald Trump Russian Ties; Ben Affleck’s ‘Batman’ Script Was Scrapped

Caitlyn Jenner was asked if Trump has met with her regarding LGBT rights, as she has requested. “No,” she admitted. “He’s been busy lately. I understand that. I do a lot of political things. I would say 80, 90 percent of it is behind the scenes. I get more accomplished that way,” Jenner insisted.

“Politics is a dirty business. Let’s be honest,” and she went on to assert, “Hillary Clinton was out there looking for dirt on Trump. Trump was looking for dirt on Hillary. This is smear campaigns.” She further said, “Everyone’s talking to everybody. Recently, Trump was over there [in Europe]. And I think it’s good we have communications [with Russia].”

“We have to get somebody in there who can straighten things out. He’s shaken a lot of things up since he’s been in there and I think from that standpoint, that’s good. Give the guy some time. It’s been what, six months? Let’s give the guy some time.”

Ben Affleck’s ‘Batman’ Script Was Scrapped

Matt Reeves, who replaced Ben Affleck as the director for the upcoming Batman film, revealed Wednesday he will be starting from scratch when it comes to the script for the project.

Reeves told MTV’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he’s “excited” to be starting fresh for The Batman.

When asked if he was using Affleck’s script — which was crafted when the star was directing the film — Reeves replied, “No, it’s a new story. It’s just starting again. I’m excited about it. I think it’s going to be really cool.”

Affleck stepped aside as director of the new film in January to focus on taking on his role as the Dark Knight. He had co-written the now-defunct script with Chris Terrio and Geoff Johns.

Reeves said he planned on a “noir” take of Batman for his script, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It’s unclear if the new director plans of keeping Joe Manganiello in the script, who was cast as villain Deathstroke in Affleck’s story.

Reeves’ announcement comes as his new movie War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters this weekend. The film has already received positive reviews, creating more anticipation for what Reeves’ story for The Batman.

This State Just Moved Closer To Decriminalizing All Drugs

Proponents are calling the move toward decriminalizing all drugs a victory for social justice. Opponents are calling it a “hug-a-thug policy.” But one thing is certain: It’s unprecedented.

The Oregon legislature late last week passed a bill late that would reclassify possession of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and other drugs from a felony to a misdemeanor. The bill will also lessen the punishments and expand access to drug treatment for people without prior convictions for possession.

“We are trying to move policy toward treatment rather than prison beds,” said Republican state Sen. Jackie Winters. “We can’t continue on the path of building more prisons when often the underlying root cause of the crime is substance use.”

The historic bill passed in the state’s house and senate. It is headed to the desk of Gov. Brown, who said she will sign it once it undergoes a legal review.

Kayse Jama, executive director of a civil rights organization Unite Oregon, called the bill “a victory for Oregonians who have been targeted by law enforcement because of who they are, where they come from or what they look like” and a “victory for law enforcement officers, who will receive needed training and an opportunity to rebuild trust in the communities they serve.”

But Democratic State Sen. Betsy Johnson argues that the concept is soft on crime, calling it a “hug-a-thug policy.”

“The proponents of these bills mistakenly believe that drug sentences damage people’s’ lives, but it’s the drugs that ruin people’s lives,” Johnson said. “I would like to end the odious practice of racial profiling, but I will not be associated with a bill that decriminalizes hard drugs.”

According to a report in the Washington Post:

Studies have shown that Oregon conviction rates disproportionately affect minorities. A 2015 study by the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission found that African-Americans in Oregon were convicted of felony drug possession at more than double the rate of white offenders; Native-Americans were convicted of drug possession at five times the rate of whites.

Oregon has the seventh-highest incarceration rate in state prisons for African-American males, according to a 2016 report by the Sentencing Project, a prison-reform advocacy group. Black people make up 2 percent of Oregon’s population but represent almost 10 percent of the people incarcerated in state prisons as of 2014, the study found.

Groups Who Have Endorsed Drug Decriminalization:

  • United Nations
  • World Health Organization
  • International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
  • American Public Health Association
  • Human Rights Watch
  • American Civil Liberties Union
  • Movement for Black Lives
  • NAACP
  • Latino Justice
  • National Latino Congreso
  • Organization of American States

The Effects Of Drug Decriminalization:

  • Reduces the number of people arrested, incarcerated, or otherwise swept into the justice system, thereby allowing people, their families and communities to avoid the many harms that flow from drug arrests, incarceration, and the lifelong burden of a criminal record;
  • Alleviates racial, ethnic and income-based disparities in the criminal justice system;
  • Improves the cost-effectiveness of limited public health resources;
  • Revises the current law enforcement incentive structure and redirects resources to prevent serious and violent crime;
  • Creates a climate in which people who are using drugs problematically have an incentive to seek treatment;
  • Improves treatment outcomes (when treatment is called for);
  • Removes barriers to the implementation of practices that reduce the potential harms of drug use, such as drug checking (adulterant screening); and
  • Improves relationships between law enforcement agencies and the communities they have sworn to protect and serve.

Football Star Plans To Open Cleveland Medical Dispensaries

Troy Smith brought a Heisman trophy to the state of Ohio and now he’s aiming to deliver marijuana dispensaries as well. The former Ohio State star and NFL player is partnering with his former high school coach Ted Ginn Sr. and former Cleveland Brown running back Eric Metcalf to launch a chain of Cleveland marijuana dispensaries.

As first reported by Tom Knox of Columbus Business First, the state of Ohio will select 24 candidates out of its 185 applicants to receive grow licenses. Governor John Kasich signed the state’s medical marijuana bill back in June 2016 and the program is supposed to be operational by September 2018.

https://twitter.com/TomKnoxBiz1st/status/884786959977238529

Smith told Knox his interest in medical cannabis grew because of head trauma experienced in his career. Various professional football players have advocated for the drug’s inclusion in the NFL’s policies and hope they can continue research on the drug’s various health benefits for dealing with pain and traumatic injuries.

Knox also posted on Twitter: “Troy Smith says marijuana can help college football players and players after their careers end. Dispensaries would be in Cleveland area.”

Smith is well-regarded in the state, thanks to his football legacy. The Heisman trophy winner helped Ohio State reach the national title game, though they lost to Florida 41-14. Smith last played in the CFL for the Montreal Alouettes back in 2014 It was also revealed the Smith trio will also partner with Washington dispensary owner Jim Buchanan.

An Essential Guide To Uruguay’s Marijuana Laws

Later this month, Uruguayans will be able to walk into a pharmacy and legally buy a gram of cannabis for about $1.3o — about half the current price of black market marijuana in the small South American nation. But before you book a trip to Montevideo or one of the charming beach towns, there are a few things you should know about Uruguay’s marijuana laws.

What You Should Know:

  • No cannabis for tourists: If you are not a resident of Uruguay, you will not be able to legally purchase marijuana. The program was designed for locals only in order to prevent an “Amsterdam-style” tourism industry. Uruguayan citizens and registered residents living in the country for two years will be able to buy up to 40g of marijuana per month from the pharmacy.
  • Don’t worry about being arrested for possession: Even though non-residents can’t buy it legally, don’t be afraid of getting busted if you are caught in possession. Since 1974,  personal use of cannabis has been decriminalised in Uruguay.
  • It’s already legal, but now you can buy it: In 2013, Uruguay legalized cultivation, distribution and consumption of marijuana. But pharmacies will now be authorized to sell it legally.
  • Where can I smoke it? If you are of legal age (18 or older), you can consume cannabis anywhere EXCEPT a public building or enclosed place of work.
  • Residents can grow their own: Citizens must register with the government in order to grow cannabis at home. One household is legally allowed to grow six plants.
  • What about international treaties? Yes, the nation with a population of 3.4 million is violating international law. Canada, too, will be defying international treaties when it begins legal national sales next year. The U.S. claims it is in accordance with the treaties because, even though the federal government still technically prohibits cannabis, although state laws disagree.
  • What about edibles? Nope. Infusing foods or beverages with cannabis will not be allowed.

Study: Being Kind Leads To Better Sex For Everyone

Kindness and being loved are some of our most basic human needs, just as primal and important as having food and shelter. It’s easy to offer kindness to strangers and to people you don’t spend a lot of time with, but sometimes it’s hard to offer the same for the people you’re with the most, like your family, friends and even your boyfriend or girlfriend. The good news is there is now proof that being kind leads to better sex.

When you spend a lot of time with someone it’s easy to take them for granted and to lash out when you feel like you’re needs aren’t being met. The longer you’re with someone, the more opportunities to foster resentment arise and you can choose to be vengeful and retaliate or to remain neutral and to not extend that olive branch. The best way to fight this problem and to avoid it all together is to be aware of it and to have it at the forefront of your mind; you can choose to be kind and understanding, to provide love for your partner even if you feel like they haven’t been at their best lately, and you’ll relationship will flourish and improve in all ways. You’ll be more intimate, closer than ever before and yes, you’ll have much better sex.

While it sounds very simple in theory, being kind to your romantic partner takes a lot of effort and work, especially when it comes to exposing yourself and being vulnerable. It’s easier to be critical and defensive, only wanting to validate and understand your side of the story. By being kind, you’ll satisfy your basic need of love and your partner will likely respond in the same way, making you feel much much more comfortable to engage in sex and to have meaningful conversations, which will create a deeper layer of intimacy.
