Experts Love Wine And Weed Pairings

Crossfaded highs are no joke, but pairing marijuana and wine might be a fun experience when controlled.

Alcohol and marijuana is a pairing that’s not normally recommended. But, for a lot of sommeliers and marijuana enthusiasts, the pairing of weed and wine is one that’s a lot like wine and cheese. Two items that are fragrant and delicious and that when combined can compliment each other in taste and smell.

The combination of marijuana and alcohol has a reputation. There’s the much discussed crossfaded highs — when people are simultaneously stoned and drunk and have trouble controlling their bodies. Crossfaded highs seem to have a substantial effect on those with sensitive systems, such as those who get drunk off a single glass of wine.

Before combining wine with weed, it’s important to be informed and to start off slowly. Any kind of marijuana and alcohol pairing is going to give you a substantial high, especially for those who don’t have much experience with this combination — or with the compounds themselves. People who are experienced with cannabis and wine will likely have an easier time in selecting what to mix, making the most out of the experience.

Marijuana and alcohol tend to act as downers, so it’s important to account for the setting where you’ll be consuming the mix of the two. If you’re at a party, try pairing the wine with a hybrid or a sativa cannabis strain, preventing that tiredness that wine’s known for from seeping in. If you’re drinking your wine and having your weed while on the couch, try out an indica with a heavy red and see what happens.

In conversation with The Manual, Jamie Evans, a wine specialist and herb sommelier, said, “Much like evaluating wine, you can also use sensory evaluation techniques to prep your nose and palate for interpreting cannabis. For example, the next time you purchase some flower, put it in a wine glass and begin to smell the different aroma layers that jump out of the glass.”

Compare and contrast different strains, noticing their differences and smells. Get creative and ask your budtender about terpenes, trying to distinguish the marijuana you purchase through this lens. Finally, try out different combinations of wine and weed. Try out a rose with a sativa or a heavy red with an indica strain. No matter the outcome, you’ll get to train your nose and to try out new wines and marijuana strains, which is incentive enough.

The Richest Cannabis Businesses In 2020

Do you want to learn how entrepreneurs legally make money selling cannabis these days? Here are 5 companies knocking it out of the park.

More and more countries decide to legalize cannabis and give entrepreneurs a chance to make money and keep the economy.

In 2019, the marijuana stocks were supposed to prove their worth on Wall Street by generating steady profits. However, things didn’t go according to the plan. Many investors missed opportunities due to high tax rates and supply issues in the United States and Canada. These obstacles helped the black market to thrive and left marijuana stock investors just heart-broken — no one could predict the government’s roadblocks.

Despite all these setbacks, some pot stocks still have good market value.

Canopy Growth And Its Bright Start

Canopy Growth Corporation (NYSE: CGC) (also known as Tweed Marijuana) was founded by two friends — Chuck Rifici and Bruce Linton, in 2013.

In 2019, the company became the largest cannabis company in the world thanks to its value of shares and market capitalization. The company has even survived all challenges in 2019 without losing a single employee. During the crisis, there were 3200 employees in Canopy Growth.

These days, Canopy Growth is legally selling their products to 16 other countries (Spain, Germany, Australia, Canada, Jamaica, Czech Republic, Chile, etc.). At the end of 2019, the company set up a partnership with a UK-based think-tank called Beckley Foundations, which will allow them to start selling medical cannabis all around the UK as well.

David Klei, the new CEO of Canopy Growth Corporation, says that it is only the beginning of their company. In 2019, they also announced the release of edible cannabis products such as chocolates and beverages. The company might show even more surprises at the end of 2020. Mr. Klei has a point — it is only the beginning.

Curaleaf Holdings and its Cannabis King named Boris

Curaleaf Holdings (CURLF) is a Canadian company that produces and distributes cannabis-based products around the world. There is one special thing about the company. As the owners of the company state on their website and in numerous interviews, research and advocacy help them to become leaders in the competitive industry.

In 2020, Curaleaf operated more than 57 dispensaries around the US and Canada. No wonder, Boris Jordan, the chairman of Curaleaf, is called a Cannabis King in the American mass media.

GW Pharmaceuticals

GW Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GWPH) is a pharmaceutical company based in the UK. It helps to treat patients with multiple sclerosis with the help of natural cannabis.

In 2018, their cannabis-based products such as Sativex and Epidiolex were approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. We can find their products in London, Prague, and Las Vegas dispensaries.

In 2020, the net worth of the company is $3.21 billion. At the moment, the company has its branches in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, and the US.

Cronos Group

Cronos Group (CRON) is an innovative global cannabinoid company with an office in New York. In 2019, the company received a $2.4 billion equity investment from Altria Group ( the largest producer of tobacco).

RELATED: A Simple Guide To Making An Investment In Marijuana Stocks

Investors consider Cronos Group one of the most cash-rich pot stock in the industry. The company was founded in 2016 and was run by only 20 employees at the beginning. Right now, there are almost 1000 employees in Cronos Group. Mike Gorenstein, CEO of the company, says that they have even more ambitious plans for the future.

Tilray

Tilray (TLRY) is another cannabis company that has a great place in the stock market. Tilray is a Canadian pharmaceutical company that has operations in the unites States, New Zeland, Portugal, Australia, Germany, and Latin America.

All you need to know about Tilray is that it is one of the first medical cannabis producers in North America.

Once marijuana was legalized in the United States, Tilray was the first cannabis company legally exporting their products to Americans. The company debuted on the Nasqad Stock Market with $17 per share.

In 2018, the price increased to $214 per share. However, the crisis in August 2019 brought Tilray’s founder Brendan Kennedy back to Earth — the price crashed to $29 per share. Despite such a failure, the company is still afloat, with the capital of $1.18 billion.

The cannabis industry is growing rapidly around the world. We might expect even more companies on the market in the near future. However, at this point, entrepreneurs need more support from the government.

Politicians might not be interested in helping the pot business. On the other hand, they should be the ones wanting to fight the illegal drug trade. Supporting local cannabis companies will not only help to generate the requisite public revenues and provide jobs but will also help to protect users from poor quality cannabis-based products.

Does Joss Whedon Smoke Weed

“I think weed’s a fine thing, for the enjoyment of and, occasionally, for thinking about movies,” Whedon once said. But does he smoke it?

Joss Whedon is one of the most impactful figures in Hollywood. As a producer, director and comic book writer, he’s developed some of television’s most iconic shows, such as “Buffy The Vampire Slayer.”He’s also the mastermind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s hard to think of a person who has been more influential in terms of media over the past decade.

This week Whedon went viral for all of the wrong reasons. One of the leads of the “Justice League,” Ray Fisher, called him out due to his abusive behavior on set. Whedon is a self-professed workaholic but this is the first time that one of his collaborators called him on it.

Does Whedon smoke weed? It’s in his name, after all.

There’s not a lot of information on Whedon and marijuana, but there’s one interesting 2013 interview with Entertainment Weekly where the topic is broached. In the profile, Whedon explains a bit of his childhood, how he grew up, and a time in his life where he went to boarding school in England. Somehow, the interviewer snuck in a question about pot.

“I think weed’s a fine thing, for the enjoyment of and, occasionally, for thinking about movies. I don’t use it socially because it does not improve my socializing. And I never, ever smoke unless it’s the last thing I do that day because there’s a long period of stupid that comes after it that’s pretty useless. You don’t need it, but every now and then it takes you to a different place,” said Whedon.

So, the answer is Whedon occasionally smokes marijuana? Whedon doesn’t seem to have a very positive opinion on the drug, but he’s used it at least. The EW profile was published a couple of years ago, so maybe his opinions have fluctuated since then. He’s a strange guy.

God’s Greenery CEO Cites CBD Boom Among Christians

The stereotypical anti-drug stance of “the Christian Right” was something Michael Klein and his team anticipated. However, it never surfaced.

By Anthony Noto

Last month, cannabidiol residue was discovered on two historic altars — currently housed in the Israel Museum, Jerusalem.

The news grabbed headlines with many pointing out the peculiarity of CBD being used in biblical times, but to Michael Klein, CEO of CBD company God’s Greenery, the evidence wasn’t so strange.

The discovery could be “interesting and provocative” to some, but the current popularity of CBD usage among religious communities underscores just how mainstream medicinal usage has become, Klein explained.

“As science continues to evolve, there are going to be more discoveries like this,” Klein told Benzinga. “The plant has been a part of history and culture since the beginning of time. It shouldn’t be surprising.”

For proof, Klein points to the growing number of U.S. consumers, 41 million, that identify as Christians. Hence why he launched God’s Greenery.

Christians & CBD

Since 2018, the startup has grown into a go-to resource for Christians that are curious about using CBD and needed reliable research and information.

“We uncovered this growing rate of Christians talking about CBD,” Klein said. “But there wasn’t a place for them to come together and share stories to foster that community.”

RELATED: Why Religious People Are Less Likely To Use Marijuana

Also, the stereotypical anti-drug stance of “the Christian Right” was something Klein and his team anticipated. However, it never surfaced.

“When we launched God’s Greenery, we anticipated that resistance and that stigma, but got none of it,” Klein said. “You might get the confusion around CBD and questions like ‘Does that make me high?’ but you can quickly dispel that.”

These days, the conversation has centered more around the potential health benefits of CBD and how Christians can take advantage of the many products that are on the market.

“Various religions and Christians in particular have their own relationship with CBD and cannabis,” Klein said. “It’s not one size fits all by any stretch of the imagination.”

To help its audience pinpoint which products to get, the Raleigh, North Carolina-based company is pumping up the volume on its own products:

  • Oil of Gladness: A combination of botanicals and organic CBD with hints of basil, mint and chocolate.
  • Fit & Flex Capsules: DNA verified Hemp Seed Oil, along with pepper/clove oil for additional terpenes and full entourage effect, plus grape seed extract, rosemary extract, and turmeric. Like Oil of Gladness, it’s third party tested to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Sleep Capsules: These liquid filled capsules also contain DNA verified Hemp Seed Oil, coupled with soothing herbs and botanicals, to achieve “stability, or homeostasis.”

The oil is slated to start shipping in early July, while the capsules will begin shipping within two weeks.

Social Good

God’s Greenery is also donating a portion of the proceeds to locally vetted churches and nonprofits of the consumer’s choice.

“This is the first direct sales channel of hemp based, or derived, CBD wellness products to Christians,” Klein added. Brand ambassadors earn a commission on the products they sell. Up to 5% of the revenue is matched by God’s Greenery and another 5% is matched from ambassadors.

“Its’ a way to foster their communities,” Klein said. “Broadly speaking, wellness continues to grow as a category — especially post covid — and people will focus on health and wellness.”

3 Ways You Can Stay Safe While Visiting A Salon

Hair and nail salons are places that are usually quite crowded. Here’s what you can do to mitigate risks.

The coronavirus hit the pause button on a lot of our usual wellness appointments: dentist, doctor, acupuncture, massage, hair, nails…really anything that kept us looking and feeling good. And by now, you’re probably starting to miss these places terribly. For those salons that are reopening, you can say goodbye to the free coffee and tea service, cozy waiting areas, and dropping in without an appointment.

While many of these businesses are reopening and giving their employees work, coronavirus cases are increasing in many parts of the country. Salons are particularly risky because of the close contact with others for extended periods of time.

Here are 3 things you can do to mitigate the risk of exposing yourself and others:

Wear a mask

While masks have become a political issue, science proves that wearing them eliminates the risk of coronavirus transmission. Masks prevent the spread of respiratory droplets, even if the person who’s coughing or sneezing is infected. Before you visit your salon, make sure to notice or ask if employers wear masks and to keep yours on through the duration of your appointment.

Do some research before you visit your favorite salon and try to get a gauge on how seriously they’re taking the coronavirus. At a minimum, salons should be ensuring that their employees wear masks, the appointments are spread throughout the day and that there’s social distancing and barriers between stations. If there’s no information of this online, call the place before you visit.

Try to cut the amount of time you spend there

While a visit to the hair or nail salon can do great things for your mental health, it’s important to remember that the coronavirus is still raging and the risk of being exposed is high. Be safe with how you carry yourself and remember that the more time you spend inside a business, the greater the risk.

While you might come in for a hair trim and a manicure, avoid opting for a massage or a dye job, since these appointments take more time and increase the amount of contact you’ll have with other people.

Herbal Bliss 10 Perfect Moments To Smoke Marijuana

Whether you want to watch the news without screaming, play with your kids or clean your house, marijuana can enhance any situation, from the mundane to the entertaining.

Choosing to smoke marijuana is great medicine, capable of relieving any number of conditions from insomnia to the side effects of chemotherapy. But it’s also a superb vehicle for attaining personal balance and increasing our overall sense of well-being. Here are ten perfect moments to smoke marijuana.

Take A Bath

If you’re dead tired or your muscles are aching, a hot bath is always inviting. Once you’ve set the scene with scented candles and some relaxing tunes, why not light a joint. Obviously, the hand that’s holding the joint dry needs to remain dry, which will require a bit of coordination when climbing into the water. But once you’ve settled in, you’ll achieve physical and psychological serenity. Better yet, try cannabis-infused Epsom salts, currently on the market. They combine cannabis, skin nourishing oils and therapeutic grade essential oils to enhance deep relaxation and promote healthy joints and skin.

Work Out With Weed

The gym can be a tiresome experience: the same old machines, the same old routine. What’s the solution? Freshen your exercise by catching a buzz before you sweat. Cannabis gives your metabolism a boost. For runners, it alleviates the tedium of putting one foot in front of the other. For those who opt for exercise machines, which are designed to isolate individual muscle groups, cannabis will allow you to focus more keenly on the contraction of those muscles.

Many yoga enthusiasts swear by cannabis because it marginalizes linear thought and focuses awareness on breathing and proper alignment. By the way, the so-called “runner’s high” is very much akin to the cannabis experience, because exercise activates the endocannabinoid system in the same way toking up does.

Clean Your House

No one’s going to say that cannabis makes housework fun. But, at least, it will make it tolerable. Even if you’ve put it off for weeks, a buzz will lead you back to an orderly existence. Instead of focusing on the mess and the work required to eliminate it, cannabis will place you in a zone of achievement – even actual play! Pay attention to your thought processes. You’ll find that your mind entertains itself as you scrub the bathroom. It will bounce happily from topic to topic and wrap itself around pleasant ideas. You’ll solve problems and find solutions.

Play With Your Kids

Watch young children play. They talk to their toys and make up stories. They live in a world of imagination. Unfortunately, adults normally don’t. But if you want to play their games and experience the world as they see it, a few puffs may do the trick. Although they prefer to remain anonymous, many stay-at-home moms insist that cannabis enhances their relationships with their kids. It creates joy and silliness, which generates new ways of playing with your kids. It may also imbue you with the same sense of wonder that kids possess.

Go To The Movies

It’s time to give your internet a break and swap your online streaming service for an actual big screen feature. Take a few hours and settle into a big, dark, comfortable movie theater, which is still an outstanding venue for entertainment, especially if cannabis is part of the feature. All of your senses are deprived except for sight and sound. And because cannabis seems to promote empathy, our involvement with the action on-screen is enhanced. (Note: Avoid nonstop action films with plots that involve government conspiracies, like the Jason Bourne films. You’ll be hopelessly lost.)

Dine Out

Does this really need explaining? Make sure you’re good and hungry, then take a few puffs before going out for an exquisite dinner We promise that the meal will be even exquisite-er. You’ll be awed by every appetizer, soup, salad, entrée and decadent dessert that arrives at your table.

Commune With Nature

So often, we take the natural world for granted. But it’s there, just waiting for us – the beach, the forest, the mountains, the acres of open land with which America is blessed. Re-establishing that connection is essential to adult sanity. Toke up and get outdoors – and take your time. Observe the world’s palette of colors, feel the wind, bask in the sun. Allow your worries and problems to diminish.

Get It On

Frankly, we’re not sure why anyone would have sex without toking up! The evidence may be largely anecdotal, but cannabis users report that their physical stamina is enhanced and that the duration of the act itself increases. Cannabis eases anxiety, allowing one to fully enjoy the experience, whether giving or receiving pleasure.

Prayer And Meditation

According to Rastafarianism: “The herb is the key to the new understanding of the self, universe and God. It is the vehicle to cosmic consciousness.” Cannabis was an integral component of ancient civilizations and religions. As the plant becomes more accepted, the old, dogmatic prohibitions that warn against having anything stand between you and the Creator are falling by the wayside.

Christians who love cannabis are increasingly finding community among likeminded believers. Of course, you don’t have to believe in God to reap the benefits of cannabis-enhanced meditation. Proponents insist that cannabis quiets the mind and allows a profound stillness.

Time to toke up and watch whatever happens next unfold while remembering that November isn’t too far off!

Why Does Marijuana Make Some People Faint?

0

While most people can use marijuana without experiencing any issues whatsoever, fainting is a side effect that has been known to happen.

It often comes on unexpectedly.

One second you’re at a party, laughing it up with friends like you’ve done a thousand times before when a joint makes its way into your hands. Nothing out of the ordinary here, except for the fact that by smoking with others, you are about to contract the germs of everyone else in the room, but that’s another story for another time. In this particular scenario, however, you take a hit off the joint, pass it to the left and continue to bask in the conversation going on around you.

But then all of a sudden, things start to get weird.

You might feel at first as if you are going to vomit, and your senses might start going a bit haywire. You might even have some trouble catching your breath, saying something to the person next to you, like “Dang, what was in that weed.” You even consider excusing yourself for a minute to regain your faculties, but before you have any chance to make it to the bathroom, everything goes black. You are told later that you just dropped out completely after taking that hit of weed.

Unfortunately, while most people can use marijuana without experiencing any issues whatsoever, fainting is a side effect that has been known to happen. Some medical experts say these blackout moments can sometimes occur since tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the cannabinoid that produces the herb’s stoned effects, expands the blood vessels, which decreases blood pressure in the body. When this happens, the heart rate increases, and it can cause people to lose consciousness.

Sometimes it’s just the consumption method that was used that is the culprit in these fainting cases. A person might not develop this side effect by smoking a joint or taking a hit off a vaporizer, but then he or she takes a pull from a bong, and they go down.

Smoking marijuana allows the user to feel the effects quicker and the size of the hit can sometimes be a factor. But most of the time fainting happens when a person stands up to smoke weed. So if you have experienced this side effect, it might be a good idea to stay closer to the ground the next time you fire one up.

RELATED: Here’s Why Smoking Weed Makes Your Eyes Red

Although fainting from a hit of weed is not necessarily dangerous, falling and hitting your head is never good.

“Marijuana can cause quite profound lowering of blood pressure, and cause users to faint as not enough blood gets to the brain,” Dr. Andrew Mongomery, a general practitioner, told Vice. “A lesser lowering of blood pressure may lead to a sense of dizziness without actually passing out, [although] the biological mechanisms underlying this are highly complex and incompletely understood.”

Photo by Darrin Harris Frisby/Drug Policy Alliance

There are a few telltale signs that it’s about to be lights out that are important for a marijuana user to recognize. If after a hit, you start to feel dizzy, experience shortness of breath, break out in a sweat, feel nauseous, get a headache or experience blurred vision, it’s time to find a place to sit down and chill for a minute.

But try not to get too spooked about what is happening, as the bad times will pass as your body adjusts to the THC.

RELATED: Should You Tip Your Budtender?

There is always a chance that a fainting spell from smoking weed could happen once and never come around again. It is also possible that a person who is prone to this reaction could have trouble with it each time they partake. That’s when it might be time to take a trip to the doctor since passing out from blood pressure changes, weed-related or not, could be an indication of a cardiovascular issue.

It is important to point out, though, that preventing yourself from fainting is really just as simple as sitting down when you smoke marijuana.

HBO Partners With Cannabis Companies To Promote TV Series

A new HBO Max animated series will use THC gummies for marketing, available for purchase throughout the month of July.

On Monday, HBO Max announced that they’d be partnering with different cannabis companies to help promote their new animated series, “Close Enough.”

The gummies will contain THC and will be made in partnership with Kanha. These products will be available in select dispensaries throughout California and will also be available via delivery with Eaze. The gummies can be purchased in different flavors, each illustrating a different character of the show and their personalities.

“From JG Quintel, creator of the Emmy Award-winning Regular Show comes Close Enough, a surreal animated comedy about a married couple, their five-year-old daughter, and their two divorced best friends/roommates all living together on the east side of Los Angeles. They’re navigating that transitional time in your 30s when life is about growing up, but not growing old. 7 Reasons Marijuana Is Patriotic

Hemp was used to create the first two drafts of the Declaration of Independence, as well as the first American flag made by Betsy Ross

Cannabis is as American as apple pie and baseball. From farm lands to Hollywood to Southern back roads, Marijuana is patriotic.

No matter what people think or say about marijuana, it’s hard to deny that the herb has helped shape American culture and history. Don’t believe it? This Fourth of July holiday weekend, we give you 7 reasons marijuana is patriotic af . Happy Hemp Day!

1. Farmers Required To Grow Hemp

Marijuana: A substance at the intersection of race, politics, and culture

Back before independence, this country relied heavily on cannabis — not the psychoactive drug we smoke today, but industrial hemp.

Regional governments encouraged farmers to grow hemp in the 17th century for the production of rope, sails, clothing and other textile products.

In 1619, the Virginia Assembly passed legislation requiring every farmer in the state to grow hemp.

If citizens did not have paper money, hemp was accepted as legal tender in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland.

2. The Founding Fathers Grew Hemp

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew hemp.  Washington grew hemp on his plantation in Mount Vernon, Va., and Jefferson on his estate in Monticello, Va. Both Washington and Jefferson wrote often about the glories of the crop. Washington’s diaries indicate that hemp was cultivated at all his five farms.

NOTE: There is no historical evidence to suggest that either founding father smoked the herb. There are plenty of Internet quotes and myths out there, but the fact remains that the hemp grown at the time was not used for intoxicating purposes.

3. The Declaration Of Independence And Hemp

No, the actual document declaring our independence from Great Britain was NOT printed on hemp paper. The historical document was printed on parchment made of animal skin, which was the common at the time.

RELATED: Hemp: Marijuana Or Not Marijuana?

However, the first two drafts of the Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper. The first draft was written on Dutch hemp paper on June 28, 1776. The second draft was written on hemp paper on July 2, 1776.

4. Betsy Ross, The American Flag And Hemp

The first American flag made by Betsy Ross was made from industrial hemp, according to some experts. Of course, there is still a lively debate on whether Ross even made the original flag.

“Many of the very first American flags were made from hemp cloths. So there’s a real tie in to our country’s history and the important rule industrial hemp played in agriculture in our country,” said Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo.

In 2013, hemp flag was flown over the Capitol for the first time in more than 80 years on July 4. Former DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart, an ardent anti-marijuana drug warrior, said the lowest point in her 33-year career at the agency was when she learned they’d flown a hemp flag over the Capitol on July 4.

5. Hemp For Victory!

In 1942, the U.S. Department of Agriculture produced an informational film called “Hemp for Victory.”  The movie, which was seen by most farmers during the height of World War II, extolled the virtues of the industrial hemp crop, detailed its history, showcased its myriad of uses and provided tips and methods for growing it.

The government needed more hemp because of a import shortage. America needed hemp to help the war effort because it was used in ship’s rigging.

In the film, the federal government announced a goal to increase the acreage of the crop from 32,ooo to 50,000 in 1943. Patriotic American farmers responded by growing 375,000 acres of industrial hemp. Farmers who committed to grow industrial hemp received a draft deferment.

6. Hemp Saved A President’s Life

In Jack Herer’s seminal book “The Emperor Wears No Clothes,” he writes: When the young pilot George Bush bailed out of his burning airplane after a battle over the Pacific, little did he know:

  • Parts of his aircraft engine were lubricated with cannabis hemp seed oil.
  • 100% of his life-saving parachute webbing was made from U.S. grown cannabis hemp.
  • Virtually all the rigging and ropes of the ship that pulled him in were made of cannabis hemp.
  • The fire hoses on the ship (as were those in the schools he had attended) were woven from cannabis hemp.
  • Finally, as young George Bush stood safely on the deck, his shoes’ durable stitching was of cannabis hemp, as it is in all good leather and military shoes to this day.

 7. Hemp Saves The Lives Of Those Who Served Our Great Nation

Veterans Can Use Medical Marijuana, They Just Have To Pay For It

As we send our young men and women overseas to fight for our national interests, more and more of them are suffering not from bullets, but from post-traumatic stress disorder. An estimated 8,000 veteran commit suicide a year — that’s 22 a day.

In March, a pair of key bills that could expand veterans’ access to medical marijuana passed in a House Committee. One piece of legislation would allow Veteran Affairs doctors to recommend medical marijuana prescriptions in states with legal programs, something doctors are currently prohibited to do. The second bill would direct the VA to conduct a clinical trial in the efficacy of marijuana in treating post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, and other health condition connected to service.

A recent study suggests that access to cannabis was associated with an 11% reduction in the suicide rate of males aged 20 to 29 and a 10% reduction in the suicide rate of men aged 30 to 39. Another study shows deaths from opiate overdoses decreased 25%  in those states with legally accessible cannabis.

Many companies have been trying to piggyback on these wellness trends, providing relief for people while also turning a profit. And CBD is big business in this arena. But are its health claims based in fact?

Before trying to understand CBD’s effect on our immune system, it’s important to briefly discuss the system itself. It’s a very important system that keeps us healthy, especially in times of stress. Immune systems are also in charge of monitoring and eliminating cells that aren’t functioning properly. The endocannabinoid system has an influence on most cells in the body, including the ones belonging to your immune system.

These are very technical terms that basically mean that CBD suppresses the functions of your body’s immune system and keeps it active when underperforming.

When it comes to our immune systems, CBD might help strengthen and regulate. But for now, more research is needed in order to draw definitive conclusions about CBD and whether or not it’s a viable source of treatment.
