Why Las Vegas Casinos Don’t Like The Cannabis Industry

An interesting juxtaposition has developed since Nevada rolled out its recreational marijuana program. While the state has embraced cannabis, Las Vegas casinos have not. This is despite the City of Sin marketing itself as a cannabis tourism destination and promoting visitors ability to dump excess marijuana in bins outside the airport before heading home.

Much debate has revolved around whether or not the cannabis industry and casinos can coexist, with the Nevada Governor signing an executive order last year requiring the two sides to talk it out. But a recent CNBC report explains why casinos are so worried about cannabis: legal laundering.

Because marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, banks won’t accept cannabis cash in fear of losing their licenses. But cannabis companies don’t like having all that money outside of a bank either. So employees of cannabis companies will turn their cash into chips, gamble a bit, then take a casino check they can then deposit into a bank.

This, in short, is why casinos don’t like cannabis.

“They are regulated as financial institutions with federal regulations because they’re lending you money, they’re exchanging money,” explained CNBC. “This puts them at risk until pot is legal at the federal level. Even though this is completely legal money at the state level.”

“For these cannabis industries they can not take this cash and put it in the bank.”

The Top 4 Exotic Cannabis Destinations In The World

Travel is a number-one dream or pastime on the planet, mainly because there are so many breathtaking things to see and do in this world. If you’re one of the many with wanderlust and you’re reading this article, you likely also appreciate destinations that aren’t harsh on the herb. Getting caned for a joint would only be a highlight for a select few, and they’d really like their lashings with a safe word.

Cannabis destinations are one of the latest (and oldest) trends and why not? Cannabis is an enhancement plant and everything good should be enhanced on a holiday: delicious foods, new music, colorful or ornate architecture, welcoming new friends and the glitz and glory of something new.

Here are the top four to get you motivated to hop on the next plane to cannabis destiny:

The most obvious choice is Amsterdam. Though not quite as footloose and fancy free as in previous decades, with new rules governing sales and tourism, Amsterdam is still riddled with coffee (pot) shops that serve anything from flower to hash to concentrates to magic mushrooms. One of the greatest delights of your life could be sipping a rich hash hot chocolate and then strolling the cobblestone streets to take in museum square, a boat ride on the canals, a delicious meal from any cuisine of your choosing and then drifting off into a deep, peaceful sleep. (You’ll need to rest up for the Red Light District the next day!)

Ibiza, Spain is the kind of place that you don’t need much incentive to choose for your next trip abroad. Aside from Spain being one of the most cannabis friendly places in the world, Ibiza itself is situated in the Mediterranean Sea with beautiful beaches and weather that soothes and replenishes year round. Finding herb is usually easy and out in the open, as in Spain it is legal to possess up to 40 grams of cannabis.

Kingston is the capital of Jamaica and Jamaica could easily be called the ganja capital of the world. Home to the herb’s poster champion, wailer to the masses, Bob Marley, Jamaica boasts plenty of cannabis for Jamaicans and tourists alike. Beach resorts, city sights, colonial history and a lush jungle, Kingston itself is a very popular destination for people around the world to come take in the sunshine and the irie vibes.

San Francisco, California is truly the city with something for everyone. Golden Gate Park is a joy to walk from panhandle to ocean and it seems that every block in every section of town has its own culture and favorite bars and restaurants. Of course you can’t miss the home of hippies, Haight-Ashbury or beatnik mecca City Lights Bookstore, but be sure to do it all while properly lit. Now that California is legal, it’s the it destination in the United States.

That Time Calvin Harris Grew A Beard So People Would Take Him Seriously

If you’re wondering why Calvin Harris was sporting a scraggly beard in recent months, now we know why—he was trying to win a Grammy.

Harris received a Producer of the Year nomination at the 2018 Grammys. To be “taken seriously by the Grammys as a producer,” Harris grew a “big ol’ beard.” It worked so far as to earn him the nomination, but Calvin Harris would lose the Producer of the Year Award to eventual winner Greg Kurstin, whose work was featured on 2017 albums by Kendrick Lamar and Liam Gallagher.

With Kurstin’s win, Harris will lose the beard he announced on social media Tuesday. “Now my beard is gone, the experiment completed, and I can move forward with 2018,” he wrote.

Check his full beard eulogy below.

Last year, Forbes named Calvin Harris the highest-paid DJ in the world so he’s doing fine. In addition, it was announced he extended his Omnia nightclub residency in Las Vegas through 2020.

Eerie! Watch Kate Middleton’s Future Predicted When She Was 13

You know that saying, “some day my prince will come?” Turns out, when some little girls say it, it comes to fruition (damn them!). Kate Middleton was just a starry-eyed teenager at  St Andrew’s Prep School in Buckhold, England when she performed in a play that saw her having her future read by a fortune teller. And today, that video has surfaced, giving us all a front row seat to what is freaking creepy as hell.

The audio in this footage is pretty hard to hear, but Hello! Magazine transcribed a bit of the foreshadowing. While the name of the play that’s being performed is not mentioned, a fortune teller is involved.

He takes the hand of Kate, who is dressed like a flower child, and tells her,  “Soon you will meet a handsome man, a rich gentleman…”

She replies: “It is all I ever hoped for. Will he fall in love with me?”

“Indeed he will,” the fortune teller says.

“And marry me?” says Kate.

“And marry you,” the fortune teller confirms.

I mean…

Kate, who is now expecting her third child in April, proceeds to ask whether her future husband will take her away, and the fortune teller answers: “Yes, to…to….to…London.” Kate ends the scene by reciting a line that ends with, “how my heart flutters!”

As if that’s not spooky enough, the name of Kate’s future husband who she marries in the play is…wait for it…Will!

If only we were all dealt a lucky hand like Kate’s.

Read It: Family’s Pet Chicken Dies And Gets Its Own Obituary

Few animals, let alone chickens, get their own paid death notice in newspapers, but that’s what Big Mama got for being such a good girl. The obituary appeared on The Eagle newspaper, a local paper from Bryan, Texas, and it got a lot of notoriety due to how cute and sweet it is.

The obituary explains how the family met Big Mama, a chicken who wasn’t cared for and who was going to be euthanized unless someone stepped in and adopted her. Stephanie and Gregory Sword saw a grainy picture of Big Mama, who was raised indoors and who’d never met other chickens, and decided to take her back to their home in College Station, where they lived with their two sons. Years later, Big Mama died in her sleep while laying on her favorite spot in the coop, at age 6.

According to local media, Stephanie Sword was very surprised by all the attention that the obituary caught, and by the amount of people that were moved by Big Mama’s story.

Via KBTX:

“We’re just hoping that the story of Big Mama will remind others that every life, even that of a chicken, is valuable and worth saving,”

Big Mama is survived by her flock of chickens: Bubbles, Runt, Mrs. S, Funky, Lucky, and Blondie.

Professional DSLR Photos Vs. iPhone Camera: What’s The Dif?

0

Smartphones give everyone the ability to take beautiful pictures that a few years ago were only achievable through DSLRs and professional cameras. In some strange magical way, a device that weighs less than five ounces is capable of battling a large camera that you have to lug around in a separate bag. No, I’m not bitter about it.

Smartphones are practical, and they’re the perfect partners for documenting everything. You may not have the best picture quality in the world, but you’ll still be able to take amazing images. With DSLRs you have more freedom. These cameras allow you to manipulate factors such as aperture and exposure, giving you more creativity and independence.

With the release of iPhone 7 plus, Apple introduced their portrait feature, creating images that can really trick you and make you believe that they were taken with a proper camera. Apple’s improved the iPhone camera so much that it’s become one of the devices’ most appealing features.

Buzzfeed tried out all the iPhones, and compared their images to the ones taken by traditional DSLRs. Is it true that smartphones have finally achieved DSLR camera quality? The answer is complicated.

On first look, the iPhone’s images look amazing, especially on the 8 and 8 plus. The photos are glossy, bright, and have the right amount of blur, making everything look photoshopped. The cracks start popping up on closer inspection though, making you realize that these images work best when used on Instagram and other social media apps. The photos are unnaturally saturated, which can be a hit or miss. You can also see the pixel details when you zoom in, which is never cool. Of course, we’re nitpicking here, but it explains why DSLRs need all that weight.

Even though smartphone photography has freakishly improved over the years, DSLRs still produce better images, but it all really depends on you. If you’re interested in photographs for Instagram and social media, the iPhone 7, 8, X, and all the pluses are more than capable of doing the job. If you’re a professional photographer, then you might need to stick with your traditional camera. Although making movies on iPhones is the latest trend now, so our point is moot.

‘Bathleisure’ Is Now A Fashion Trend And We Don’t Know Why

If you’ve seen photos of women wearing towels on their head like it was the next big fashion trend, welcome to “bathleisure.” It’s the latest style obsession no doubt clogging your Instagram feed.

“What is it, tho,” you ask. Like its sibling athleisure, the trend of making sportswear en vogue, appears to have originated in November on The Cut, which coined the term to describe Rihanna‘s look on the cover of British Vogue, according to Allure.

Here she is, somehow looking totally put together in this insane outfit that conveys a style of both sheer lethargy and contempt.

Rita Ora also nailed the look on the red carpet at the MTV EMAs in London back in November.

As Allure points out, both  Man Repeller and Mashable have picked up the story, making it an official photo op.

Now, on to the important topic. How the eff does one “bathleisure?” It’s as simple as wearing a look that says “I just stepped out of the shower but I need to look hot because I have somewhere to be and people to impress.” Think, sexy outfit with sunglasses and a wet head wrapped in a white towel. Don’t think you can pull if off? You’re probably right. If you’re not Ri-Ri or Ri-ta, you should probably just get dressed and dry your hair before you go out in public like the rest of the proletariat. But if you find yourself feeling super lazy, know that your spa-day look will be totally justifiable. Just make sure to snap a selfie or it didn’t happen.

US Health Secretary: No Such Thing As Medical Marijuana

Another day, another instance of a misinformed and misleading cannabis-related comment from the United States Cabinet. This one comes courtesy of US Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, who wanted to clarify his stance on medical marijuana while visiting Kettering, Ohio.

“There really is no such thing as medical marijuana,” he said, according to the Dayton Daily News. “There is no FDA approved use of marijuana, a botanical plant,” he would go on to say. “I just want to be very clear about that.”

Azar’s comments came when a local reporter asked if medical marijuana could be an alternative to opioids as treatment for pain relief. The Health Secretary further elaborated that the federal government remains focused on developing pharmaceutical alternatives to opioids. They do not view medical marijuana as an approved pain treatment.

“We are devoting hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars of research at our National Institutes of Health as part of the historic $13 billion opioid and serious mental illness program that the President and Congress are funding,” he said.

“Over $750 million just in 2019 alone is going to be dedicated towards the National Institutes of Health working in public-private partnership to try and develop the next generation of pain therapies that are not opioids.”

Ohio voters legalized medical marijuana in 2016. The program is expected to debut later this year.

What Changing Religions Will Mean For Meghan Markle And Her Family

Meghan Markle was raised as a protestant but will be baptized in the Church of England before her wedding to Prince Harry.

According to US Weekly, Markle will be baptized along with her parents, Doria Ragland and Thomas Markle, by the end of the month at Kensington Palace. The ceremony will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who will also officiate the wedding at St. George’s Chapel on May 19th.

Fox News also reports that the fact that Markle is divorced won’t matter when it comes to her baptism. “It’s not a problem. The Church of England has clear rules with dealing with that and we’ve dealt with that. We went through that as anyone would who will officiate at a wedding where someone has been separated and a partner is still living,” said Archbishop Welby.

Sources claim that Markle will be converting out of respect for the Queen of England. Markle is set to make her first public appearance with the Queen on March 12th, during Commonwealth Day. This celebration is the largest annual multifaith gathering in the UK, meant to honor the Queen’s lifetime commitment to the Commonwealth.

Marijuana Dispensaries In Pennsylvania Have Already Run Out Of Product

Less than two weeks after Pennsylvania introduced a new medical marijuana program, two of the state’s dispensaries ran out of inventory. In fact, the only supplies left as of Thursday morning were vape pens.

Chris Visco, who co-owns TerraVida Holistic Center in Sellersville, told the Philadelphia Inquirer: “I had projected 60 people initially for the entire month. We had over 600 patients in our first eight days.” He says the shop will remain open with modified hours for patient consultations and pre-orders.

Meanwhile, Keystone Shops, a dispensary about 40 minutes south of Sellersville in Devon, has posted a notice on its website saying it’s closed until further notice, stating:

The first sale in Southeastern PA took place at Keystone Shops on Friday, February 16 at the Keystone Shops Devon location.   We’re proud to have provided this service to this initial patient and roughly 200 more patients since then.

After receiving multiple deliveries from the state’s first Grower-Processor, Cresco-Yeltrah, Keystone Shops has sold out much of its existing inventory.

Keystone’s COO Skip Shuda tells the Philadelphia Inquirer  that he’s looking at resuming sales the third week in March, adding, “It’s frustrating for us, and it’s frustrating for a lot of patients who were looking for medicine.”
