Meghan Markle Was Ghosted By This ‘X-Factor’ Winner Right Before She Met Harry

I guess when you win the “X Factor” and you’re hot and talented, you can catch the attention of just about anyone. In the case of Matt Cardle, who won the talent show back in 2010, it was Meghan Markle’s DMs he slid into back before she met Harry.

A source tells The Sun, “Matt followed Meghan [on Instagram] initially in early 2015 because he thought she was a beautiful star from Suits. But he was stunned when she followed him immediately back and started messaging him. She said she was a big fan of his work.”

According to The Sun, the Duchess of Sussex reportedly “swapped secret messages” with Cardle just months before she met Harry.

Markle is said to have suggested the two meet up before Cardle ghosted her.

Says the source: “Matt couldn’t believe a Hollywood star like Meghan would even know who he was so he was very flattered and they chatted a little bit online before she suggested meeting up.

“But then he met his girlfriend and knew it wasn’t appropriate to keep talking to Meghan so he ended up ghosting her. It felt like there could have been a connection but the timing was wrong. He didn’t reply to her last message.”

Cardle remains in the same relationship he was in while messaging Markle — 28-year-old Amber Hernaman.

Markle, on the other hand, was just getting over her split from husband Trevor Engleson, who she divorced in 2013.

It’s rather odd timing that this story would surface just after Meghan and Harry celebrated their first anniversary together, along with their newborn son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Some things just work themselves out.

‘Friends’ Star Lisa Kudrow Talks Body Positivity; The Tacky Way Meghan Markle’s Brother Tried To Cash In On Archie

James Middleton’s sent out a tacky email trying to profit from Archie’s birth

Via The Daily Mail:

The Duchess of Cambridge’s brother James Middleton has made a cringeworthy attempt to cash in on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new son Archie. James, 32, sent regular customers of his gift company Boomf an email full of jokes and references to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor just three days after the baby was born, in an attempt to sell his products.

The email, to thousands of customers, was titled: ‘Boy oh boy – that was a surprise!’ and included baby ‘emojis’ in the title. It went on: ‘It’s a royally exciting week to become a new parent (wink wink). Every parent deserves to have their little prince or princess showered in colourful confetti. Celebrate and congratulate them by sending something a little bit different (we kindly recommend popping over and sweeping up the confetti whilst everyone is sleeping though). P.S Don’t worry, no babies were harmed in the making of this video, we promise!’

The email is illustrated with a short video clip of some of the confetti products and a mother with two young children. The email went on to list products such as the ‘Bomb of Joy’ which erupts with confetti once the recipient opens the envelope. It was captioned: ‘Just like a new baby, our Boomf Bomb will bring an explosion of joy, laughter and let’s face it, a tiny bit of fear.’ Other items advertised included personalised marshmallows, 3D ‘flutter cards’ and fold-up animal characters. The email is not signed personally by James, but he is the founder and owner of Boomf, and calls himself ‘Wonka in chief’.

Royal commentators felt the email was in poor taste. Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, said: ‘Everybody cashes in but probably it’s not very good manners for a family member to do it.’

Boomf has struggled financially since it was founded in 2013, posting losses of £1 million a year over the past three years. Last month, James put his Boomf delivery tricycle on eBay for £1,650. He also took a job at his brother-in-law James Matthews’s family hotel in Scotland last year.

It may well have made for an awkward moment when Prince Harry and James rubbed shoulders yesterday at Lady Gabriella Windsor’s wedding, but last night James said: ‘It’s a bit far fetched to say we are cashing in – I’d say more celebrating!’

‘Friends’ star Lisa Kudrow says she struggled with body positivity, compared herself to co-stars

Via Fox News:

Appearing on the podcast “WTF with Marc Maron” on Sunday, the 51-year-old actress said she struggled with body positivity and would often compare herself to Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston.

“Because you see yourself on TV and it’s that, ‘Oh my God, I’m just a mountain of a girl,”’ she said. “My bones feel bigger. I just felt like this mountain of a woman next to them.”

Kudrow added that she deliberately lost weight during the show, which got her compliments rather than concern for her health.

“Unfortunately for a woman, if you’re underweight, you look good and that’s all I ever got,” Kudrow said. “When I was too thin, I was sick all the time.”

Kudrow told Entertainment Tonight last week that she doesn’t watch “Friends” reruns, saying: “I don’t watch it if it’s on. I might not like myself [on the show], so I’d rather not risk that.”

Insights Into The Sex Lives Of Millennials

A lot has been written about sex and Millennials lately, specifically about how little of it they’re having. These statistics clash against our preconceptions regarding sex, something we see an abundance of in movies, on TV and in magazines.

It’s a prickly topic and one that’s causing a lot of stress for scientists and people in general. While Millennials aren’t having lots of sex, it’s an inescapable part of our culture. Here are some insights into the sex lives of millennials and their issues.

Parental pressure

RELATED: 5 Ways To Develop A Healthier, More Fulfilling Sex Life

Helicopter parents, a term that originated only a few years ago, is really having an influence on young people and their relationships. In an article published on The Atlantic, journalist Kate Julian explains that parents are encouraging their kids to focus on school and personal achievements, prioritizing these over finding partners. This message is also one that has been slowly making its way into media.

Helicopter parents also tend to supervise their sons and daughters more closely, leaving them without room to explore their independence.

Stress and anxiety

https://giphy.com/gifs/panic-stressed-1FMaabePDEfgk

Millennial anxiety is nothing new. Student loans and debts, technology that makes people feel constantly plugged-in, and the amount of content that people have access to, all occupy a large amount of their attention. “I often see that, at the end of a long day, clients are too burnt out to think about engaging in more contact with people, whether that’s going through the effort of setting up dates or having sex with a partner,” one psychologist tells The Huffington Post.

Different sex drives between partners

https://giphy.com/gifs/thesimpsons-the-simpsons-7×24-xT5LMziA3Uw8HmUtGw

This issue is quite common and not limited to Millennials. The Huffington Post reports that once couples have been together for long periods of time there are significant changes in desire, with one part of the couple not being as attracted to their partner as they were in the beginning. “They feel sad and neglected when they first look at this without a filter,” says therapist Deborah Duley.

The influence of dating apps

RELATED: 8 Essential Questions To Ask Yourself Before You Have Sex With Someone

Statistics have revealed that apps like Tinder take a lot of your time, averaging out a match every 60 swipes. Photogenic people are able to find matches more easily, so the app does work for a subset of people, and has promoted this “hook up” culture.

It’s important to highlight that now that dating apps exist, approaching people at bars or public places is seen as creepy and out of the norm, pigeonholing people even more and making it tough for them to find opportunities to have sex.

Bad and painful sex

https://giphy.com/gifs/britney-spears-dislike-LRxugmH6BnAEE

Since there’s so much sexual content in media and everywhere we look, young people are learning about sex in ways that are negative and that result in painful or just plain bad exchanges. These experiences limit people and prevent them from seeking out sex. The Atlantic reports that a large percentage of women have had painful experiences with vaginal and anal sex, making it clear that obtaining an orgasm from a random hook up is very rare.

The Surprising Way Trump’s US-China Trade Dispute Hurts Marijuana Users

Major political disputes often create unpredictable ripples in the world of cannabis. Sometimes, these waves are small and kitschy. When President Donald Trump caused a government shutdown because legislators wouldn’t fund his border wall, that meant government workers were left without pay or medical services. So one company stepped in to provide those employees with free medical marijuana.

But those tangent offshoots connecting cannabis and Big League Politics can also hold foundational consequences for millions of Americans. Like, for example, when the Cato Institute discovered legalizing marijuana would do more to curb illegal drug smuggling than a wall ever could.

When considering United States’ current trade dispute with China, catalyzed by Trump once again, the ripple hitting the cannabis world is somewhere in between. According to a report from Barron’s, America’s showdown with China is actually hurting the cannabis trade. You’d think otherwise, as marijuana isn’t exported or imported (legally, at least) by the United States.

Except it’s affecting those companies who don’t touch marijuana, in twist of events. High tariffs imposed by the Trump administration have seriously cut into businesses like KushCo Holdings, which provides chemicals, vaporizer hardware, and packaging to marijuana producers. Although the company is experiencing increases in sales numbers—39% increase sequentially in the quarter ending in February—their gross margin figures have torpedoed thanks to tariffs.

That’s because KushCo imports its vape pens and cartridges from China. According to Barron’s, “nearly 70% of KushCo’s $35 million in February quarter revenue” came from these imports. At first, the company tried to eat the cost of tariffs. But since the trade dispute won’t end anytime soon, and could eventually cost KushCo even more, the company will now have to pass off those increased fees to its consumers.

RELATED: Matthew Gaetz To Democrats: Get Over Trump And Focus On Marijuana Reform

KushCo has applied for a tariff exemption, but what chances does the company have when “zillions” of others sit ahead of them in the queue? Helping stoners buy cheaper vape cartridges isn’t exactly high on the priorities of American capitalism. KushCo isn’t the only cannabis company suffering from the trade disputes either. Barron’s mentions GreenLane Holdings as another business extending pricing surges thanks to the tariffs.

The U.S.-China dispute doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon, despite Morgan Stanley analysts warning that if such trade talks fail, it could push the global economy into a recession. At least those vape cartridges would come in handy then.

Canadians Have Less Of This To Have More Weed

You likely aren’t surprised to hear that following adult-use legalization of marijuana in Canada, more of the country’s citizens are using cannabis than ever before. But an eye-opening survey from Cowen and Co. outlines how that increase in consumption has translated into losses for both the alcohol and legal cannabis industry. Surprisingly, Canadians have less of this to have more weed.

According to Barron’s, the analysis from Cowen’s was sparked by big-time marijuana producers like Aurora Cannabis achieving disappointing sales despite a perceived increase of Canadians using weed. Cowen surveyed 1,800 Canadians and found 40% of those living in the Ontario and Alberta provinces reported using marijuana in the past month. In previous government surveys, fewer than 15% of Canadians had admitted to consuming cannabis in the past month.

RELATED: The Ultimate Newbie’s Guide To Marijuana

In addition, previous government surveys showed 60% of Canadians admitting smoking marijuana in their lifetime. Comparatively, Cowen’s poll had 75% of people saying they’ve tried cannabis at some time in their lives.

These numbers showcase the current predicaments of cannabis production and distribution in the country. “Canada’s illegal pot market must be bigger than expected,” Cowen concluded, and actually give the analysis firm optimism about the long-term future of the cannabis market in the country.

Consumers told Cowen their favorite methods of using cannabis included edibles and vapes, two products currently unavailable for Canadians to purchase. In addition, numerous reports have detailed barren shelves and lapses in distribution to consumers. Both these qualities explain why most Canadians would find it easier to continue buying from the black market than going legal. The increase in numbers, Cowen reports, could also stem from Canadians feeling more comfortable admitting their marijuana usage thanks to legalization.

“The growth is not entirely surprising,” Cowen analyst Vivien Azer wrote.

RELATED: Finding Business Opportunities In The Cannabis Industry

Meanwhile Canadian beer sales fell by 6.8% in March 2019, the highest drop in more than two years in the country. Overall, Azer and her colleagues found that as marijuana usage rose, beer drinking fell.

“As we have asserted in the past, we believe that beer faces the biggest headwind from the transition to legal cannabis access,” wrote Cowen’s analysts. “We think this is troubling sign for beer,” they added, in reference to the drop in beer sales.

Mostly, Cowen remains bullish on the opportunities available for Aurora, as well as competitors like Canopy Growth, Tilray, and Cronos Group, especially once edible and vape sales begin this fall.

The Oxford English Dictionary Just Got High On Reefer Madness

Language constitutes reality, so it stands to reason when the country is afoot with change around the way we perceive and discuss cannabis, so too would the words we use to describe marijuana-related activities. Words that previously held pejorative, negative connotations like stoner or pot have slowly exited the lexicon, thanks to careful work by cannabis media. Don’t worry, you’re still allowed to make stoner jokes.

No authority is greater in the English world of language than the Oxford English Dictionary. Not only does the OED define words, it also records when a word entered a casual, daily use. And according to those OED authorities, that now includes a heaping of cannabis-related words.

RELATED: How Marijuana Slang Evolved Across States And Generations

A couple new concepts that combine with cannabis to form new words include “cannabusiness” and “cannabutter,” as The Los Angeles Times recently pointed out. “Cannabusiness” is defined as “The branch of commercial activity concerned with the production and sale of cannabis or cannabis-related products. Also as a count noun: a company engaged in such activity.”

Meanwhile, cannabutter is even more straightforward in definition: “Butter infused with cannabis, used as an ingredient in cannabis edibles such as cookies and brownies.”

RELATED: Stoner Stereotypes Fall Away As Cannabis Is Rebranded

Speaking of which, cannabis edibles also entered the OED, as well as “cannabis dispensary” and “cannabis café.” Another term to characters marijuana users is one I’ve frankly heard before. That would be “grasshopper,” which is apparently a slang term meaning “a person who smokes marijuana, esp. habitually; a marijuana user or addict.”

Sorry, stoners, your time as leading term to describe marijuana users is finished. With patientce, the young “grasshopper” has taken over.

Is There A Trend For Low Fat, Low Calorie Edibles?

Long gone are the days when pot brownies were the standard edible option.

Before 2022, Americans and Canadians are expected to spend around $4.1 billion on edibles. Cannabis food and drink products are certainly trending, experiencing amazing growth in 2018 thanks to changing laws surrounding recreational marijuana and reduced stigma about use. Rising demands for more choices and healthier options has resulted in a diverse selection of marijuana-infused food and drinks. This is especially true in Los Angeles where the rising demand for low calorie and low sugar edibles has created a space for companies like Kushy Punch to thrive creating fat-free, dairy free, and GMO-free gummies.

Named one of the Specialty Food Association’s Top 10 Food Trends to Watch in 2018, edibles are viewed as an incredibly profitable venture. It makes sense that entrepreneurs in the space are looking for creative ways to appeal to a wider market. Just like women may have different desires for consuming marijuana, individuals with health goals may be more likely to indulge if there are edibles that meet their needs.

RELATED: Are Marijuana Edibles Better For Your Brain Than Smoking?

Whether you’re on a new journey towards better health or self-proclaimed gym rat, we’re pretty sure you can expect more and more options cannabis products that fit within the constraints of your diet. It’s not all sugar-free gummies, either. Los Angeles based small business healTHCare focuses on baked goods made with only vegan, organic, and non-GMO ingredients. Other’s are creating protein bars and superfood snacks that appeal to health nuts as well as individuals with unique medical needs like diabetes.

It is worth pointing out that finding a low calorie edible may feel like a license to snack away, but don’t forget that edibles can take 90 minutes to two hours to take their full effect. Stick with one serving size at a time of new-to-you products until you’ve got a clear understanding of you’ll respond. And, if you’re brand new to edibles, it’s best to give them a try in a comfortable environment like your own home instead of at a party or concert.

Federal Health Experts Express Concerns Over Strong Marijuana

0

While the U.S. is heading into a time when marijuana will be legal just like beer and tobacco, the transition of this mostly illegal substance from bad to good has not been smooth. Sure, there are plenty of anecdotal reports suggesting the herb has a plethora of therapeutic uses, but there are just as many that blame it for increased emergency room visits and even traffic-related accidents.

Some federal health officials say these upticks are mostly due to the strength of the marijuana out there today. It’s just more powerful than the stuff that was sold in the black market years ago. Unfortunately, because the cannabis plant remains illegal at the federal level, research over the pros and cons of the substance have been mostly hindered. So, no one really knows for sure whether the potency of pot in America is a real concern or just a boogeyman of prohibition past.

It is true that marijuana is getting stronger.

Cannabis breeders have become really good at producing plants jam-packed with delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which, of course, is the compound that produces the stoned effects from marijuana. The goal of some cannabis producers has always seemed to be laying claims to the strongest pot on the market.

And the race is on.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration indicates that marijuana potency has increased incrementally over the past few decades. The pot being sold in the black market back in 1995 had roughly only around 4 percent THC. By 2017, the drug samples they were collecting contained an average of 17.1 percent THC.

This rate represents a more than 300 percent increase in potency since 1996 when California became the first state to legalize for medicinal use. Add in some of the popular pot products of the times – the concentrates and oils – and in some cases, the THC content can reside in upwards of 90 percent.

RELATED: New Study Suggests Today’s Marijuana Is Too Strong

Federal health officials are concerned that these high levels of THC may cause problems for the average user.

“In general, people think, ‘Oh, I don’t have to worry about marijuana. It’s a safe drug,’ “Nora Volkow, director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse, told NPR. “The notion that it is completely safe drug is incorrect when you start to address the consequences of this very high content of 9THC.”

As with anything, moderation is key. The person who understands this concept can enjoy the chilled-out and relaxing effects of THC without ever spiraling out of control. Some with a lack of experience, however, can consume more than what they should at any given time, which could spawn a variety of scary, albeit non-life threatening side effects that may turn them off on the experience altogether.

Large amounts of THC can ramp up a person’s anxiety, as well as bring about wicked bouts of paranoia. This is one of the reasons that dosage recommendations (something that appears on pot packaging in legal states) should be strictly adhered to. Volkow says that high concentrations of THC can cause a person to become “psychotic and paranoid.” And while there is some research to support this claim, most of the studies on the subject found that these periods of psychosis are only temporary and more likely to happen in people already susceptible to the condition.

RELATED: 6 Things Everyone Needs To Know About Today’s Marijuana

There have also been cases where marijuana users experience a rare condition known as cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. Although in modest doses, cannabis is known to calm nausea in some patients, people prone to this disorder might find themselves vomiting and suffer from intense abdominal pain.

Andrew Monte, an associate professor of emergency medicine and medical toxicology at the University of Colorado’s school of medicine, says in the worst of the worst situation this condition can be life-threatening. “Some people have died from this … syndrome,” he said, “so that is concerning.”

Health experts say new marijuana users should ask a lot of questions about their weed at the dispensary. Again, most of the problems associated with cannabis consumption can be avoided by simply following dosage recommendations. Above all, the best advice is just to start slow and low.

“You have to know what’s in your weed,” said Staci Gruber, director of the Marijuana Investigations for Neuroscientific Discovery program at the Harvard-affiliated McLean Hospital. “Whether or not it’s conventional flower that you’re smoking or vaping, an edible or tincture, it’s very important to know what’s in it.”

WATCH: Is It Possible To Overdose On Marijuana?

You may have heard, especially from cannabis enthusiasts, that no one has ever died from using marijuana. It’s true. The Drug Enforcement Agency has no record of someone ever dying from a toxic overdose of marijuana, which is why people within the cannabis community usually describe the sensation of taking too much as “greening out.”

RELATED: What To Do When You Get Way, Way, Way Too High

But that doesn’t mean consuming cannabis is void of precautions users should be aware of. Thankfully our friends at the GrowthOp put together a video around the misconceptions of marijuana overdoses, plus the potential problems someone might face when taking too much cannabis.
