Britain’s Number One Sexual Fetish

Oh, hey there, Britain! We see you and your sexual fetishes. BDSM, spanking and foot worship is all stuff you’re into, according to a new survey.

A sex shop called Lovehoney carried out a study in which they asked people what their favorite sexual fetish was. And beating out everythign else on the list was making sex videos…using an iPhone.

The rise in sex videos can be directly linked to our smartphone addiction. Not only are more people video taping themselves having sex, they’re sharing those videos with other couples. This gives new meaning to “sliding into your DM.”

Rounding out the top 10 list, in order of kink preference:

BDSM

Also known as bondage and discipline, domination and submission, sadism and masochism, this fun fetish rose in popularity around the same time as “Fifty Shades of Grey” five years ago, and according to The Sun, “is set for another boom with latest movie being released around Valentine’s next year.”

Sexual Role Play

This one will likely never go out of style, because pretending to be someone else in the bedroom is the only way some people can open themselves up to new experiences.

Rubber, Latex and Leather

There’s a term for people who get turned on by the smell, look and/or smell of these types of materials: rubberists.

Spanking

Did you know the area where the glutes meet the thigh is an erogenous zone for many? It’s not about the pain, which you thought it was, didn’t you?

Feet

Having a foot fetish is a legit fetish. In fact, it’s the most common non-genital sexual fetish. And according to Live Science, “Nearly half of all such fetishes focus on feet, and almost two-thirds of fetishes for objects associated with the body are for shoes and socks.”

It just so happens, as Live Science points out, “the brain areas associated with genitalia and feet are adjacent to each other in the brain’s body image map” and that foot fetishes could possibly result from cross-wiring in the brain between the foot and the genital parts.

Microdosing Marijuana Gets Even More Micro In Canada

For a growing number of cannabis consumers, less is more. Microdosing, the simple act of consuming less marijuana in order to achieve a milder psychoactive effect, has become something of an industry trend over the past few years.

Budderweeds, a Canadian cannabis company, has tweaked the concept and has introduced hyper-microdosed edibles. The company said it is releasing some of the lowest-dosed cannabis infused edibles in the Canadian market.

“Everyone interested in trying edible cannabis can benefit from such a low dosed edible.” Says Brittany Driver, Budderweeds’ media relations coordinator. “The new and inexperienced users, senior citizens who are maybe trying marijuana for the very first time, even parents who want to relax at the end of a long day but don’t want to be or feel “intoxicated” necessarily, all have an avenue to enjoy cannabis through microdosing with Budderweeds.”

We here at The Fresh Toast have written about the microdosing movement here, here, and here. The idea is not new, but Budderweeds’ product line hopes to tap into the customer base hoping for a more delicate experience.

The beauty of microdosing edibles is that the consumer knows how much THC is in the product, allowing him or her to enjoy the chocolate or brownie or candy in a more controlled way.

In most states and in Canada, the typical edible product will contain 10 mg of THC per serving. Budderweeds provides consumers with products registering as low at 5 mg THC per serving. According to the company press release:

The precision that can be achieved with a measurement that low allows consumers to find their necessary dose and avoid potential over indulgence of THC. For example, a person may find that 10 mg at once is too strong for them, but 5 mg once or twice a day will provide the effects they seek. A 20 mg serving might cause a casual cannabis user to call it a night but 15 mgs may hit that sweet spot where relief is provided without causing sleepiness.

Budderweeds will offer a line of micro-dosed gumballs, jelly beans and gummies.

Everything You Need To Get Ready For ‘Stranger Things’ Season Two

Now that the “Game of Thrones” elephant has left the room, the cultural zeitgeist now looks forward to the second season of “Stranger Things,” Netflix’s surprising smash hit. But with a release date of October 27, some fans can’t wait to revisit the Upside Down. Luckily Netflix just announced a free-to-play mobile game called Stranger Things: The Game.

Produced by independent game developer BonusXP based in Allen, Texas, the adventure game shows off 8-bit era graphics as players go around the fictional Hawkins, Indiana, collecting Eggos and solving puzzles. The game will include popular locales from Stranger Things like Mirkwood Forest and the Hawkins Lab.

The gameplay and look will remind you of classic Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis titles like Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past, Earthbound, River City Ransom, and Castlevania. Unlocking new characters will give players new abilities to continue the game, which loosely follows the plot of the first season, though takes some liberties within. Just as the show packs numerous nostalgic reference to past TV shows and movies, so too will the game to previous game franchise you grew up loving.

But in case that wasn’t enough pre-show hype for you, Netflix also released the show’s newest trailer. It recounts all the “stranger things” that happened in 1984, encapsulating New Coke, the Olympics, and Star Wars in its nostalgia snare.

Is the show trying too hard to impress you? Or is this all proper ramp-up to hit show’s second season? “Stranger Things” was special because of its hidden gem quality—a word-of-mouth sensation of a self-aware show that steered into its influences instead of ran away from them.

But is all this noise showcase “Stranger Things” is trying too hard to sell you on its product? Or are we getting everything upside down? We’ll have to wait until October 27 when all of the nine-episode second season drops on Netflix.

Scientists Figured Out What Makes Certain Types Of Weed Taste Different

Have you ever wondered why some types of weed taste different than others? What gives Purple Goo its lavender flavor while Birthday Cake Kush tastes like, well, birthday cake?

Growers have been creating new flavors of cannabis for decades, but we’re starting to figure out how it works in more scientific terms. Researchers at the University of British Columbia identified 30 “terpene synthase genes” that are responsible for the individual flavor profiles of cannabis strains.

This is similar to how the wine industry grows vines and varietals that have notes of butter, smoke, or chocolate — without actually adding any of those foods and flavors into the wine itself.

“The goal is to develop well-defined and highly-reproducible cannabis varieties,” said Jörg Bohlmann, a professor in the Michael Smith Laboratories and faculty of forestry at UBC. “This is similar to the wine industry, which depends on defined varieties such as chardonnay or merlot for high value products. Our genomics work can inform breeders of commercial varieties which genes to pay attention to for specific flavor qualities.”

The genes they identified play a role in producing limonene, myrcene, and pinene in the plants. When your bud smells citrusy, that’s the limonene at work. If it’s more dank, it’s got more myrcene.

Learning more about how weed is grown and flavors are manipulated will be crucial as more states legalize.

How Forest Fires Ruin Wine And What It Means For You

For awhile now, scientists haven’t been able to identify why some wines have a terrible aroma that makes them undrinkable. Until now.

It turns out, smoke aromas are stored at the source: in the grapes. And wine producers aren’t aware of the off-putting tasting notes (have you ever described a wine as tasting like an ashtray? Not smokey, but a legit ashtray?) until the cork is popped and the nose is overcome by a terrible aroma.

(Stay with us, because this gets science-y.)

That’s because aroma is attached to sugar in plants. That same aroma can then be detached from the plant sugar and released through a process called glycosylation. What’s responsible for this process? An enzyme called glycosyltransferase. So when grape vines are exposed to fires, reports Science Daily, this link with sugar molecules makes the smoky off-notes more water-soluble. As a result, the grape vine stores the now no longer volatile smoke aromas.

As long as the grapes haven’t been harvested, the odorous smoke molecules can’t be detected.

Professor Wilfried Schwab and his team from the Professorship for the Biotechnology of Natural Products at theTechnical University of Munich breaks it down.

Now that we know how such a taste can develop, the next step is to try to cultivate grape vines with less glycosyltransferase. Or we’ll add a second sugar to prevent the release of the bad aromas.

Alternatively, reports Science Daily, yeasts that are not capable of releasing the smoke aromas could also be used during fermentation. The gene responsible for this could also be removed.

Now that vintners have access to this information, they can take measures to ensure the quality of their wines.

These advent calendars have a booze for everyone on your holiday list with the exception of your Jagermeister-loving uncle (who you exchange suspicious side-eyes with at all the family gatherings anyway).

Drinks by the Dram has even gone so far as to incorporate a li’l something for the masochist in your life:

Up for a challenge and fancy yourself as a chilli champion? We’ve even partnered with those masochists at The ‘Hot Enough’ Vodka Co. to bring back The Naga Chilli Vodka Escalation Advent Calendar. Dram 1 starts at a mere 10,000 scovilles, ramping up to a truly alarming 240,000 scovilles in time for Christmas Eve! On second thoughts, you may want to forget you ever saw that one…

That sounds super fun.

The average price for one of these advent calendars appears to be around $200. Unless you live in the U.K. where these are sold, you’ll have to settle for Master of Malt.  One of the more expensive calendars, the Very Old & Rare Whisky Advent Calendar, goes for more than $11,000 and allows you to sample whiskies worth up to $25,000 per bottle. Let’s hope the FedEX package doesn’t break en route.

Cannabis Stores Increase Local Real Estate Value

In a report titled “Contact High,” researchers at California State University and University of Wisconsin looked at the impact of cannabis legalization in Denver, specifically at property values. The report is making the round in Colorado Springs, where they are considering changing policy to allow retail recreational cannabis stores.

The results are outstanding. The values of homes within .1 miles of a cannabis store had increased in value, and there was quite a difference in the value of homes in the surrounding area as well. The report’s authors said, “Our results indicate that retail conversion has a large positive impact on neighboring property values after controlling for property attributes and neighborhood characteristics.”

Retail conversion was the only way to fly if you wanted to operate a recreational pot shop when the law was first enacted. It meant that only existing medical marijuana stores could convert to recreational. There was no from the ground up to start. 103 retail conversion licenses were given out the first year.

The report found that single family residences went up in value over eight percent, which averages out to a $27,000 increase, nothing to sneeze at and considerably more than what houses .1-.25 miles away were pulling in – they weren’t even impacted by the converted stores.

Housing supply and job growth were factored into the report as were potential explanations for property value increases outside of simple proximity to legal weed. Things like surges in job growth related to increased cannabis workplaces, lower crime rates and being near other amenities were also considered before calculating results.

“Taken together, an increase in marijuana-related jobs, a tightened housing market, as well as the evidence we present that the housing stock near (within .1 mile) of a medical dispensary is relatively lower valued than other housing stock all combine to provide a story that there were many competitive buyers for the more affordable units in the city and the fact that they are located near retail dispensaries is not considered a disamenity,” wrote the researchers, “In fact, if many of these buyers have marijuana-related jobs, living near a retail dispensary could be considered an amenity.”

The study has the potential to impact home buyer decisions in legal states, especially those that are freshly recreational or those to come. And though it’s pinpointed at one location and with one focus, its results are great news for the cannabis industry.

Gossip: E! Looking To Replace Kardashians With Crawfords; Jennifer Garner Meeting Ben Affleck’s New Girlfriend

As the Kardashians celebrate their incredible 10th year anniversary on E!, the network is secretly looking for a family to replace them and now they think they have found what they were looking for.

“The Kardashians cannot go on forever and the Network has been looking for years to find a new family to replace them. But after searching forever they think they have found the family – Cindy Crawford and her beautiful model children,” sources tell Straight Shuter. “Cindy is married to George Clooney’s best friend, Rande Gerber. He is sexy and handsome and they have two beautiful kids together who just blew up fashion week. Kaia, 15, and Presley Gerber, 17 are now bigger stars in the fashion world than Kendall Jenner. And unlike the Kardashians everyone in this family has a real job. The only problem E! has is convincing them to do the show.”

Jennifer Garner Meeting Ben Affleck’s New Girlfriend

Jennifer Garner is ready to meet with ex Ben Affleck’s new girlfriend, Lindsay Shookus, but she has a few conditions.

“Jennifer is all about her kids. Before Ben introduces Lindsay to the children, Jen wants to meet her,” sources tell Straight Shuter. “She doesn’t want her kids coming home and talking about daddy’s special friend and not being able to talk with them about her. But before Jen meets Lindsay she wants to make sure that Ben is serious. Jen doesn’t need to waste her time meeting everyone Ben hooks up with. Jen also insists that the two ladies meet alone – without Ben!”

Sounds reasonable to us!

A Conversation About Topical Cannabis Massages

On her website Massage Topicals, Julie Crispin, a licensed therapeutic massage therapist based in Portland, OR, offers this definition for a topical cannabis massage. “Topical cannabis massage is the use of an oil or lotion that contains some cannabis concentrate (some combination of CBD and THC) in a carrier oil. It is applied to the full body during a Therapeutic or Swedish Massage.”

Following is a conversation with Crispin exploring the health benefits of combining massage therapy with topical cannabis.

What interested you in adding cannabis to a therapeutic massage?
About three years ago, one of the chiropractors I work with asked me what I knew about using cannabis. She had a lot of patients asking her about salves that are used for spot treatment. I said, “Not much.” This conversation got me wondering what a full body massage would be with one of these salves. When I started researching this topic, the little material I found focusing on topicals was all anecdotal. I began to research the cannabis plant and learned about the endocannabinoid system. I was intrigued and surprised that we had receptors throughout our body. So, I started doing my own research by purchasing some topicals and trying them on my patients who had severe chronic pain. Lo and behold, it worked.

How effective have you found cannabis to be when combined with massage?
My anecdotal experience is that when people who have Parkinson’s or other seizure disorders, it helps mitigate the seizures. The anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties in cannabis helps those with chronic pain. Given we have endocannabinoid receptors throughout our entire body, a full body topical massage allows full body microdosing. This has a calming effect on the central nervous system, changes the body’s perception of pain, and allows more healing to occur. Spot treatments can be effective but they’re more a temporary fix like putting on a band-aid as opposed to receiving a full body massage.

What types of cannabis topicals do you recommend for massage?
It doesn’t matter if one uses a cream, a lotion, or an oil. What matters is the cannabis content. I believe that you need to have both CBD and THC in significant quantities in order for the cannabis oil to be effective by itself. My experience is that products with CBD only oil containing less than .3 percent THC contain other ingredients in addition to cannabis that make the product effective (Hemp Oil, Emu Oil, DMSO). Here in Oregon, I love the products made by Empower Oil, Luminous Botanicals, and Sacred Herbal Medicinals.

Can you address the concerns raised by some people have that a cannabis massage will give them a psychoactive high?
When I started giving cannabis massages, many of my clients were elderly and they were not using any kind of cannabis. I asked them if they would take a drug test before, immediately after the massage, and then a week later. Every single one of these tests came back negative. Apparently the topicals enter the skin but do not enter the bloodstream. So they did not show up on a drug test.

What do you see as the future for cannabis topicals massages?
I believe that the root of all disease is dis-ease – which comes from stress. There’s so much stress in our daily lives. We’re plugged in & turned on all the time and we’re running a million miles a minute. That’s not good for our body because we’re releasing adrenaline to our brains and we’re not chilling down. That’s what topical cannabis massage allows us to do. I believe massage needs to be a combination of relaxation and therapeutic to be the most effective. But if you’re only going to do one, I’d say get massages as often as you can to relax and de-stress.

Finally, anything you’d like to say to folks who are skeptical about receiving a cannabis topical massage?
I have two things. One, I’m really focusing as I move forward on educating health care workers about the biology and legality of using cannabis. If I can inform them about the safety and efficacy of these cannabis topicals I can help assuage people’s fear of cannabis Secondly, I have worked on people who are in their eighties. It doesn’t show up on any drug test that I’ve given to them. And they swear by it. They won’t go back because it has such a positive effect on them. It doesn’t get you high. Why not try it?
